TAC Cup Graduates join the Seagulls

The Williamstown Football Club is thrilled that 10 new graduating TAC Cup players have joined the Seagulls in 2010. The 10 players come from 6 different TAC Cup Clubs –
Western Jets – Dion Lawson and Michael Fogarty
Bendigo Pioneers – Jye Sandiford and Brian Fenton
Gippsland Power – Nick Sing and Ed Carr
Sandringham Dragons – Kwame McHarg and Jack Purton-Smith
Calder Cannons – Stephen McCallum
Northern Knights – Josh Griffiths
The 10 players include two 2009 Club Best and Fairest winners – Nick Sing won Gippsland Power’s Best and Fairest and Stephen McCallum won Calder Cannon’s Best and Fairest in their Premiership year.

It's good to see that Willy is embracing the development of its relationship with and local emerging talent through the Western Jets.
Rather than raiding the zones of Bendigo, Casey, Sandringham, Coburg and the Bullants.

Yeah, I thought that was a bit ironic. Especially when you consider thair commitment to the 23rd player rule last year was to give Gotchy's boy a game.

Very true. And perhaps they could have generated some "goodwill" amongst the Jets players by using a handful more of them throughout the season. Let's say half a dozen of them had worn the Willy jumper in a senior game in 2009 they'd have put pen to paper with the Gulls for 2010??
I know Curry is one eyed, but if he's going to go around pinching players from all over Victoria, then the bloke should stop whinging about half a dozen Jets players that don't want to play at the Seagulls. It's actually quite petty that them and Werribee fight over potential Williamstown Reserves players.
Although in fairness to Willy, the TAC Cup zoning in the west is a joke and probably one of the reasons why the ill-fated merger was attempted all those years ago.
Why should kids growing up in Hoppers Crossing be zoned to Williamstown?
And how the hell is Werribee supposed to encourage kids who live in Geelong to travel 50kms up the highway to play for them? Especially when they have probably barracked for the Cats since they were born?
They shouldn't be. Perhaps the zoning in the west needs to be based on place of residence?
In an ideal world, I guess Geelong would have aligned with Werribee. There is no way if I lived in Geelong (particularly south of Geelong) that I'd drive three nights a week to training plus on gameday. These kids probably spend 6 hours a week in the car driving from Geelong to Werribee and back! No thanks.
Maybe Werribee need to do more "local base" training, say have a session at the start of the week in Geelong for the local boys?
