Maybe Mustang we should start a new thread best and worst VFA jumpers.

Good idea vfa!

Liked:

Northcote - green and gold, colours of Australia. Looked great. For some reason green is a colour used rarely on footy jumpers, which is probably why it stood out.

Camberwell - the red, white and blue panels with the big CFC stood out. For some reason it always seemed a really blue shade of blue if you know what I mean. Much "bluer" than anything Footscray of the West Coast Eagles ever wore.

Hated:

Oakleigh - predated Fremantle. Purple on footy jumpers should be illegal. Looks disgusting.

Kilsyth - Reverse Essendon jumper, red with a black sash. Looked ridiculous. Coburg has worn something similar as an alternate jumper in recent years.

For the time being I'll ignore a few of the more bizarre things worn in latter days since it's become the VFL. I know North Ballarat fans keep coming up with good reasons why they should wear the Eureka-puke thing but it looks absolutely hideous.

Mustang,
A lot of very good reasons to wear that jumper once a year & I must agree it is atrocious, however the Box Hill jumper is by far the most revolting strip I have ever seen. Brown & Gold, horses & hawks. YUK.
Sorry mate.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one. I reckon the Box Hill jumper is fantastic and have done so since I was a kid.

However, even a die-hard Rooster like you can't defend the Eureka-puke one. It's an orphan - disowned by it's parents!

Favourite jumpers
Northcote- original green and gold. Like the colours.
Camberwell- stood out and the combination of the tricolours red/white and blue looked good.
Yarraville- I liked the big eagle on the front in the days of David Thorpe from 1977. They had a huge sponsor in Massey Ferguson. Recruited huge and had a big chance in both the 1977 and 1980 Grand Finals but lost to Mordialloc and Brunswick.
Williamstown- tradition blue with a gold sash. Nice and simple but good colours.
Geelong West- White with a GWFC logo on front. Stood out and looked ok.

Worst jumpers
Werribee reverse- Yellow with black sash. Looked ordinary
Preston- when they wore those stupid Preston Knights jumpers were the worst ever.

I won't include some of the recent jumpers that are ordinary, especially the alternate strips.

Muzza me boy, I am not defending the eureka strip. I think it's apalling, however we shall continue with it once a year to support the City of Ballarat and associated charities. It is worth considerable $$$ to our club in marketing & promotion. Just don't let the ratepayers know.

Strictly speaking vfa, that was a VFL not a VFA jumper.

But I agree it looked awful. Not only that it alienated every Bullants supporter there ever was. If there was ever a competition for the dumbest decision ever made by a footy club, that one would have to be right up there.

I was waiting for that!!!
It's all about sponsorship. NO club can survive without it.
Is this the mob that sold their traditional white horse for a mottled hawk.
Glass houses.!!!

I prefer articles from vflfooty.com than bullshit that is dished up by Howard Leigh.

The traditional VFA jumpers are all good, particularly as they were relatively unique (Northcote, Camberwell, Willy, Port, Prahran).
The Geelong West, Preston and Oakleigh monograms were fabulous.
Mordiallocs red and white hoops were good, and then the vertical stripes came up well.
Introduction of coloured shorts in 1975 added some colour, and Sandys royal blue shorts I thought were good.
Kilsyth and Werribee reverse Richmond jumper were rubbish.
One year Williamstown had plain gold socks which looked aweful.
Waverley and Port Melbourne stripes were/are good, although Waverley never came up well on tv.

Best Ever: Camberwell. (I could be biased, having followed them from 1945 to 1993)

Worst Ever: Preston Knights. (looked like a training jumper!)
