Bullants V Casey
Body:
Another solid performance from the Bullants, who have developed an outstanding home ground record over the past two seasons. The performances of Ross Young and Josh Vansittart, combined with another improving effort from Ryan Jackson were the main positives to come out of the game for the Bullants. Young in his second VFL season has made sharp improvement that's seen him play in the Bullants midfield after spending most of 2005 as a small forward. Casey is the only team to topple the Bullants in 2006, but a repeat performance seemed unlikely after a nine goal to four first-half in which the Bullants looked every bit a premiership contender. The big men dominated for the Bullants with Chris Bryan turning in his best effort of the season to outclass Barry Brooks. Up forward Ian Prendergast and Digby Morrell controlled the aieral duals and were rarely troubled by smaller opponents. James Gwilt and Kyle Matthews were Casey's best. Playing across half-back, Gwilt racked up possessions at will, particuarly when the Bullants had use of the strong wind. Matthews wasn't as dominant as when the teams last met, but again showed that an AFL career is on the horizon. Bit of light entertainment late in the game with the crowd on the hill providing some 'lifestyle' advice to Jamie Cann. Cann of course whilst playing for Tasmainia had a bit to say about the Bullants in a 2003 interview with the football record. Reserves One of the Bullants worst performances for the season losing to Casey for the second time at Cramer St. The Bullants had first use of the wind and started poorly. Effectively that was it for the day as Casey took full advantage of the breeze and held a 37-point lead at half-time. The appearance of Justin Koschitzke created rare interest in a VFL reserves game, Koschitzke played most of the first-half. Playing in the ruck he got a few touches and just before half-time was starting to impose himself on the game. Bill Micevski and Matthew Lord were the best for the Bullants.
