Bullants v Williamstown Q-Final
Body:
Very disappointing end to the game for the Bullants with Williamstown piling on 10.6 to 1.1 to run out winners by 45-points. With Ross Young injuring a shoulder early and Frank Raso a late withdrawal, the Bullants midfield was exposed despite the efforts of Daniel Harford and Nick Fallu. Up until Saturday, 19 Carlton players had realistic claims of gaining one of the 12 spots available to AFL players in the VFL finals. As the game went on this number had probably been reduced to 14! Since the middle of 2004 the Bullants/Carlton alignment has been good and I don't want to sound like I'm Carlton bashing, but the decision to play David Teague at AFL level was puzzling. Teague has repeatedly been amongst the Bullants best and ignored for AFL selection but come Round 22 when the Bullants have got a final on, what happens? Maybe it was just a chapter in the Pagan/Mitchell tiff! On this ocassion Williamstown were just too good. Debate may rage over the selection of Dale Thomas and he did make a big difference but the player has still got to go out and do the job. Thomas may never wear the Williamstown jumper again but he played as if his life depended on getting the best result for Williamstown.
