Jack Barker passes away

Sad news today, with Sandringham legend Jack Barker passing away this morning.

It just won't be the same going to Trevor Barker Oval. We normally stand on the grassy hill, just in front the area that has Jacks name on the fence.

He was involved in a verbal exchange with a couple of Port supporters I stand with in the the game late in the season.

Condolences to his family, friends and the Sandringham Football Club.

For sure, If you dished it out, you got just as much back from Jack. All the Sandy people loved him.
I believe he was a staunch Richmond supporter before Trevor went to St Kilds.
Another true identity gone.
Would be ironic if the Saints won the flag.

We might be from the bush. but we ain't green

There was a photo taken of Jack back a few years ago now, when the revamped VFA/VFL included a standalone St Kilda side.

The saints presented Jack with a footy jumper that was split down the middle. It was half St Kilda, half Sandringham.

If I can find it, I'll post it up.

Yep...The Jack Barker Oval...

He was a genuinely nice bloke...loved St Kilda..Loved Sandy and Cheltenham..I had a brief chat with him a few years ago and he said the only momentos that Trevor had kept from his football days were the 2 Sandy premiership medals cos that's what you played footy for...won't be the same at Sandy with Jack standing on the boundary fence

Sandy. The most successful club in the past 30 years

Jack Barker was nearly as famous at Sandy and football in general as his son namely Trevor. Never take a back step was Jacks lifelong motto and didn't he just love watching Trev and Sandy winning those '92 and '94 premierships,
sadly missed by all at Sandy.
