Frankston's biggest ever loss by a mile. Must have been very ugly.

Next 2 weeks could be disastrous for the Dolphins. Away games at Box Hill and Willy. Two more thumpings coming up there ....on top of a 26 goal hiding from Carlton Twos today.

Our old vfa teams bearsman northcote and Caulfield did cop some hidings in our last years of existence. Hope the dolphins can somehow restrict the damage over the next 2 weeks. Another 2 floggins of similar margins could revive memories of geelong west 3rds. Robbo the dolphins might need you to kick a few goals. Spot in the pocket available instead of time keeping duties.

Caulfied got some hidings in their last year.
180 points v Sunshine
157 points v Waverley
155 points v Prahran
145 points v Oakleigh
They were broke, players weren't being paid and were walking out so they struggled to put a team on the ground. Caulfield forfeited the last game of the year against Sunshine as the VFA refused to allow them to play for the 4 points. As it would have been a practice match the players voted to forfeit the game. That was the end of the Bears. They couldnt pay what they owed the VFA in fees so were 'indefinitely suspended'

Northcote too had some floggings in 1987
26 April Round 03 Waverley 32-23-215 v Northcote 13-09- 87
03 May Round 04 Northcote 13-16- 94 v Camberwell 27-19-181
31 May Round 07 Northcote 11-10- 76 v Werribee 29-18-192
14 June Round 08 Prahran 36-18-234 v Northcote 09-09-63
05 July Round 11 Northcote 05-11-41 v Oakleigh 37-21-243
02 August Round 15 Camberwell 34-24-228 v Northcote 13-09-87

Ironically both our old VFA teams met in the 1982 VFA 2nd Division Grand Final. Unfortunately there was no promotion for the dragons in winning the flag.
Caulfield did merge with Ashburton under the name Caulfield- Ashburton and won the flag in 1988 SESFL then folded. I think they got expelled. Northcote did not have that much money but main problem was lack of off field !! Only if we can turn back time and resurrect.
Frankston's new social club opens on August 16 against Essendon. A big day for fifty years in the VFA/VFL is planned for August 9 against Coburg. Hopefully a better showing for the past players from the dolphins on the field.

I remember the 1982 GF well. What a week that was. Bobby Skilton's son Darren was playing for the Bears and was tragically killed in a car accident on the Sunday night of their Preliminary Final win against Oakleigh. The players were in shock all week and attended the funeral on the Friday before the GF, only 48 hrs before the game. They gave it their best shot but Northcote was just too good on the day, The Bears failing by 2 points.
When they were kicked out of the VFA about half of the players and administrators went to amalgamate with Ashburton and the other half went to St Kevins Ormond in the Southern League eventually becoming Caulfield Football Club and are still going today. Last I heard was that they adopted the Frankston Dolphins jumper, black with a red and white stripe.
Caulfield-Ashburton was indeed expelled from their comp. I dont remember the year but they beat Tooronga- Malvern in the GF and their captain former Port Melb and Oakleigh player Mickey Thompson was reported for multiple striking offences and was given 22 weeks at the tribunal. Unfortunately for the club the then President - under the influence of alchohol- wrote a letter to the League President condemning the decision and telling him what he thought of him and the league. Of course the League Presidents response was to expel the club.

Ashburton had the odd colours of lime green. They were a pretty fiery club back in the old South East Suburban Football League. Then you had clubs like Collingwood Districts as well as Richmond Amateurs. Would have been some no holds barred clashes back then.
Mickey Thompson was one player you wouldn't mess with on the field.

Out of all the old VFA clubs, how many are still functioning in minor leagues ?
I know that Moorabbin, Dandenong, Mordialloc & Caulfield are in the SFL, Kilsyth in the EFL & Sunshine & Yarraville in the Western League. Are they the old clubs or completely different ones ?
