With a new AFL Reserves competition being planned by some in the football industry some may think that the future doesn't look bright for the clubs of the former VFA. However, a new VFL without the AFL Reserves would create a competition in which those teams return to where they were. As has been done by the VFL when they took over the VFA in 1995, clubs where given to a Under 18's zone, creating what can now be used to create a competition.
The problem that presents itself is that there is nine VFL clubs to eight Under 18's zones in the metro area. However this could be changed by redrawing the eight zones to create a ninth zone.
So a twelve team competition can be created, the teams would be - and the Under 18's zones they would represent:
Ballarat Rebels - Representing GWV Rebels
Bendigo Pioneers - Representing Bendigo Pioneers
Box Hill Mustangs - Representing Eastern Ranges
Casey Stingrays - Representing Dandenong Stingrays
Coburg Cannons - Representing Calder Cannons
Frankston Dolphins - Representing a new Mornington Peninsula and Phillip Island zone
Gippsland Power - Representing Gippsland Power
Port Melbourne Borough - Representing Oakleigh Chargers
Preston Bullants - Representing Northern Knights
Sandringham Zebras - Representing Sandringham Dragons
Werribee Tigers - Representing Geelong Falcons
Williamstown Seagulls - Representing Western Jets
