Cannot believe that there has been no discussion on the demolition of this magnificient structure.
This stand is over 100 years old & should be preserved at all costs.
Has there been any media complaints or are all Richmond supporters just going to sit back & just roll over ? We don't get a lot of information up here.
Surely there must be some heritage listing attatched & must be enforced.
I'm sure VFA would be devestated !
No media complaints, no Richmond fans complaining. I guess the vast majority of Richmonds 100,000 members have never been to Punt rd let alone sat in that stand therefore they don't feel too emotional about the whole thing. A sign of the times, most teams do not play at their home- they play in neutral venues - gone are the days when going to a opposition home ground was a real adventure where home crowd and ground advantage was present !!!!!
I'd love to see some games played at traditional home grounds but that's not going to happen.

Yep MegaA It is a sad to to see that loverly old stand at Punt Road go under.
Some would call it progress but its still a big part of Richmonds history gone forever.
The VFA played the Division One Finals at Punt Road from 1967 to 1969.
Dandenong won the first GF in the notorious match against Port and Preston won the next two.
The VFA returned to the Junction Oval in 1970 with much bigger crowds (GF Crowd was 22,000) than the crowds at Punt Road that were not as good as expected in fact the 1969 GF only had 10,000 on a wet day and the ground had very little under cover seating unlike the Junction that had 4 large grandstands and a much bigger capacity.
There is an online petition re this issue at the following link but has less than 700 signatures which surprises me, I signed it and maybe people on here should also if they feel strongly enough about the demolition of the grandstand

The iconic grandstand at punt Road should be left alone. Part of a long history at tigerland. Nothing is sacred these days. What's next some money hungry developer bulldozing Young and Jacksons to put up a 100 story apprtments ??? Melbourne CBD looks terrible with ugly high rise buildings everywhere.
I'm surprised that the stand is not protected by a historical listing.
Have they let it fall into disrepair so badly that they are now arguing that it can not be saved? It's an iconic stand and the only feature of note at Punt Road Oval.
The last time I was in it about 4 years ago it was in perfect condition after many $$$ being poured into it's maintenance.
We might be from the bush. but we ain't green
The developer’s strategy is to let heritage buildings fall into disrepair by neglect, so they can cry too hard, too dangerous to repair, must be demolished.
If there was a taxpayer subsidy to restore, they would have their snouts dee in the trough
