Will be heavy conditions which will favour port. Bound to be a real slog. Expect the borough to progress to preliminary final.
I wouldnt be so certain vfa Footscray will have a good side in.
Regarding the surface, re 1st post, reports from Port Melbourne are that the surface is in great condition at the moment.
37 times Grand finalists
16 times premiers
21 times runners up - THE MIGHTY BOROUGH!
I'M PORT MELBURNE BORN,
I'M PORT MELBOURNE BRED,
I'LL BE PORT UNTIL I'M DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw the club post a comment on their facebook page praising Citywide or whoever they are called, for their efforts in managing the surface.
Hopefully with the better weather today it will draw a half decent crowd to North Port and should get good TV ratings with no AFL on
Go the Bourogh
What a game!
So much to say...nut I am away and not in a position to post up my thoughts until Tuesday in any detail.
I thought it was a bloody good game. Both sides threatened at stages and squandered chances, but the pressure and skill level was very good. I'm going to mention some individual players after I have had a chance to watch the game with a more analytical approach.
I couldn't be more proud of Ports performance and give us a huge chance against the old enemy next Sunday.
I'm not sure how the game looked on TV but the atmosphere was very good.
Hopefully it rated OK!
It was exactly how vfa said it would be, a real slog and Port over the line. Vfa quit your predictions whilst you are ahead.
Strong crowd, with crowd involvement very good from both sets of supporters. Wonder what the official crowd was, wouldn't be surprised if we got 5k.
Northport , been watching the replay and yes the crowd came across as strong and loud. One of my friends who was watching on tv said that the crowd was crazy.
Great ad for the VFA !!!! L ? AFL seconds comp ??? Whatever it is, great publicity for the comp yesterday.
Those Semi-Finals couldn't have been better timed.
After the AFL's weekend of hard-tackling congested slogs, it was good to see some footy where field kicking skills and quick ball movement were the main attractions.
That was probably Anastasio's best game at Port Melbourne. There were a few uncontested marks that got grassed and he was often there to crumb and save the day. Gee Damian Mascitti has clean hands overhead - he could be an outside bet for an AFL listing.
Bailey Williams is probably the Bulldog who has developed the fastest this year. Another great game yesterday. He's so nicely balanced.
I don't see that much VFL nowadays, but a Borough side containing Dwyer, Pinwill, Cain and Nahas made me nostalgic for the side that made the 2008 Grand Final in Gary Ayres' first year as coach...a year when they beat Williamstown in a Preliminary Final.
Incredible game. Footscray threw everything at it but Port were too classy, their small forwards exposed the Dogs defenders who like to drop off. Some of the running finishes were top notch and really brought the crowd to life.
Totally agree re VFL finals being a brilliant spectacle, I think the smaller grounds definitely suit finals and result in so many momentum swings - win one contest and go quick and you're a scoring chance.
Tough ask for Port this week against Willi, who have had the edge over them lately, but you never know when these two teams meet, especially with it being at Port. Willi for mine though, they're a super team.
I fancy Richmond in the other prelim, but Box Hill have performed well above their talent level all season so wouldnt be surprised if they claim another scalp.
