Coburg Coaching Change

Announced this afternoon that Peter German will hang up the magnets at the end of 2017. I won't gild the lily, I'm obviously supportive of the change, and hope this enables the club to reinvigorate and push forward in a positive way to strengthen the alignment with Calder Cannons and bring in a coaching group who can retain a cohesive playing list aimed for long term stability and success.

Thanks Peter for your 4 years of service and best of luck with whatever the future holds.

Best of luck to Germo for whatever the future may hold, but can't help but feel that with the club being where it is, that this is a good result. Hopefully we can manage to get in a coach who really has or can build a reputuation for nurturing and exposing young talent, this will ensure we continue to pull in young guns from the Cannons and hopefully further afield. Competitiveness will come as a result. Let's get this right, about as critical as a coaching appt can get.

We'll thrill 'em

We'll kill 'em

We'll tear 'em in two

Luke hodge playing coach would be a massive coup for the young lions. Rumour hodge at frankston ? They had hodge on microphone while playing earlier in year and has a potential coach written all over him. Hope he is at one of the vfl teams coburg or frankston. Ideally for hodge assistant playing coach.

Lovely idea vfa.

Except there's a small problem.

Frankston (who are yet to exist again at this level) or Coburg aren't capable of paying their entire playing list half of what Hodge can command as an assistant coach at AFL level. Consider Sam Mitchell walking straight into a $350k per year assistant role at WCE. Hodge could do that immediately if he wanted to.

If he chooses to have a year or two out of full time football, focus on family and be handsomely paid to do media - why would he bother spending the 40+ hours required to coach a stand alone VFL club which can't rub two dollars together?

Be realistic please.

If an ex-AFL player were to drop back to VFL level and play/assistant coach, it'd be a 6-8 season <100 gamer with minimal immediate career prospects. Not a 300-game, 4 time premiership (as captain), dual Norm Smith medallist future Hall of Famer.

I just said he would be a great coup. Whether he coaches for money or to cut his teeth at a lower level who knows ? Time will tell. I don't think hodge is the type to ask for massive dollars. Yes might be a long shot but just the same would be good. Anyway it is only august and germo still has a few games to go. Hopefully he can snag a win or two. Who will Coburg coach for 2018 would not be known until a few months time.

My vote for PK to take over! Hes done his apprenticeship at Box Hill and Coburg and the time is right for him to be elevated to senior coach. Failing that, if Frankston decide to go with a 'new' coach PK would be ideal.

Plenty of footy experience with Sandy and Frankston on field and Frankston, Box Hill and Coburg off field.

Over to you PK ?? Maybe put the hat into the ring. You got my vote as well as Bearsman. You have the thumbs up from an old Northcote plus a Caulfield supporter..

Pleased people are discussing a more realistic option than pulling future AFL Hall of Famers out of thin air with absolutely no basis.

Wouldnt be surprised if former senior assistant Richard Peoples throws his hat in the ring too. Would be great to get him back as he knows his stuff and has good relationships with key people.
