Footy news in Bayside local parer

Bayside Leader 21st Nov

P39 SANDRINGHAM’S playing list has suffered two big hits and may take a third. Tom Curren, who failed to play a game this year owing to a foot problem, has gone to WAFL club Claremont on a two-year deal.

After being delisted by St Kilda Curren chosen to stay at Sandy and was named captain for 2017, but he spent the entire season on the sidelines.

Meanwhile key defender Elliot Le Grice phoned general manager John Mennie last Tuesday saying he was on the move, most likely to Collingwood VFL. Mennie said the club was disappointed to lose four-year player Le Grice, who told Leader he would wait until after the drafts before putting pen to paper with the Pies. He is mindful that Collingwood’s selections may impact on his opportunities. There is also a slight chance that St Kilda will take Le Grice, which would keep him at Sandy anyway.

The Magpies are also believed to have hooks into Zebras best and fairest Kade Answerth.

P40 THE rumours were right. “Bluey’’ is at Beauie.

VAFA club Beaumaris last Tuesday confirmed the appointment of former West Coast Eagles champion and Gold Coast Suns coach Guy McKenna as its senior coach

He joins another ex-AFL coach, AJAX’s Mark Williams, in VAFA Premier B coaching ranks next year, and replaces former AFL forward Adam Schneider, who has been installed on Greater Western Sydney’s panel.

McKenna, nicknamed “Bluey’’, was an assistant under his Eagles teammate John Worsfold at Essendon this year.

He resigned to join Cricket Victoria’s coaching and talent ID panel.

“There are lots of reasons for my interest in this role. I’ve spent more than 30 years in AFL at all levels and I’m ready for the change and new challenge this role provides,” McKenna said in a Cricket Victoria statement when his position was announced.

“Cricket dominates the summer landscape.: In a statement club president John Murton said: “The selection panel was headed by vice-president Terry Lucas, who interviewed an outstanding field of candidates

. “Guy says he is excited to be involved with a club like Beaumaris, which has such a strong junior program.

“He has already had some involvement with a number of the Beaumaris juniors through Sandringham Dragons and looking forward to their progression into senior ranks. “Having moved into the area, he is keen to become involved in the Beaumaris community.”

Couple of other losses for Sandy,Joe Fisscher gone to Bonbeach and Max Hayes to Nth Melbourne.

Obviously not much incentive to stay there when St,Kilda play 18 or so of there own in the seniors.

Sandy have appointed 32yo David Canizzo ex CEO of the Southern Football League as John Mennie"s replacement, challenging job to say the least.

Williamstown"s president,Fred Hall has also resigned from his post citing business and family committments as reported by Paul Amy.
