VFL R12 - Northern Blues v Port Melbourne (Port Melbourne advised to wear alternate guernsey for all remaining away games)

From the Port Melbourne Football Club facebook page

In a historic first, the club has been advised to wear our alternative Guernsey in away games for the remainder of the 2017 season; starting with Saturday’s game against the Northern Blues.

The news that Port Melbourne have a clash with the Northern Blues and will be required to wear the 'clash' jumper for all remaining away games.

The announcement has created a lot of comment on Social Media.

What are your thoughts on both the decision, and the jumper?

Wouldn't it be great to advise the AFL to_ "bite yer bum"!

They must be joking. Why half way through the season? Whose jumper does Port clash with?

Wonder if Chanel 7 is behind this?

Maybe port should add an old vfa logo to its jumper to thumb its nose at the clowns that have made this decision. No law against wearing an old vfa logo to its jumper. Port should do it !!!

Unfortunately too late for that now as the jumpers have been designed and printed, but good idea nevertheless as such a jumper with a old vfa logo would sell well. Crap decision by a bunch of dictators. No Port Melbourne supporter happy as this decision lacks common sense and logic.

A fantastic statement made on match day with lots of PMFC supporters decked out in the home jumpers from the recent to years gone by. The decision by AFL VIC to impose or advise the club mid season without discussion with the club - nothing short of stupidity and a lack of respect shown.

I was thrilled with the effort from Port on Saturday.

Some veteran players have hit some of the best form for some time.  Chris Cain deadly in front of goals, and Sam Dwyer getting plenty of the footy and using it well.

Scott Clarke back into the side gives us plenty of forward marking options along with Lisle and Conway, along with Chris Cain as a floating target.

I thought the crowd was down on recent NB v Port games at Cramer Street. plenty of space on the terracing.  Hardly any NB supporters and even a few less Port faithful than usual.

Viojo-Rainbow also very good gettig plenty of the footy in defence and setting up a lot of the play.  Tom O'Sullivan has been good all season and Saturday was no exception.  Encouraging signs for the rest of the season.

Welcome back to the forum Jletti - long time no see - well not on here anyway.

People are commenting that it was a uninspiring effort by Port - justa game where they did what they needed to do without looking anything too flash... I think its abit optimistic to want the club to win by 10 goals each game they play. For me I thought we played very well against a side that nearly knocked off Box Hill the previous round and a side that isn't too bad.

I too thought that Clark had a good game and was impressed by how involved TOS was again.

Couldn't tell you if I thought that the crowd was up or down as this year I watched this one from the TV whereas last year I saw it live. What I can say though is that Channel 7 was impressed by the crowd saying something along the lines of - "Good crowd in today to watch this game of Northern Blue vs Port, thiers a good crowd watching Port no matter where they play". One of my mates who is a Preston fan said he was happy with the crowd and thought that they had slightly more fans at the game but that may have been bias. At times the Port crowd sounded good on the tv.

It was also pleasing to note that although Conway and Lisle didn;t trouble the scorers too much, that we were still able to score a decent score. Not having to rely on one or two people for goals is yet another positive that this team posseses.

Thanks MegaA, good to be back talking about VFL footy. Really impressed with Dyl Conway being that extra go to forward player, but also his versatility to play in other spots to assist when needed. Yes large victories are not the be all end all. It's all about playing great hard tough and consistent football week in week out.
