Simply awful result at Punt Rd this afternoon. I can almost hear the shutters being pulled down at Eureka Stadium as we speak. Why would a playing group want to roll up and cop that week in/out? Not many of us were predicting great things from the Tigers' VFL outfit, so this doesn't bode well for the Roosters.

Imagine what happens when they play Port or Willy? It's not going to be pretty....

Very good crowd at torquay. Werribee very wasteful 2.14.26 to geelong 5.9.39 at half time.

North Ballarat copped some pastings early last year and then bounced back to play some ok footy, so they won't throw in the towel just yet, especially with some good players to come back in. But yeah, horrible start, the players have been through a lot in the past few months.

Plus northern blues carlton seconds. Lol. I'll be at willy this arvo. How many original springvale supporters will be there ??? Answer nil ??? Will be interesting to see how ben cavarra goes for the seagulls today. Class player and should fit in very well. I excpect williamstown to have a decent win over melbourne seconds at point gellibrand

A few years ago Sandringham was tired of the Saints running the show and said that they would go stand alone. Is this a realistic option now or are finances so bad that they can't do it ? I'd like to see the most successfull VFA/VFL clubs in the past 30 years stand on their own two feet.

37 times Grand finalists
16 times premiers
21 times runners up - THE MIGHTY BOROUGH!

I'M PORT MELBURNE BORN,
I'M PORT MELBOURNE BRED,
I'LL BE PORT UNTIL I'M DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Things seem to have changed enormously with the alignment at Sandringham. Not dissimilar to Richmond/Coburg save that we were basically consigned to the scrap heaps when Richmond chose to run their own VFL side. We swam, and continue to swim, ferociously to survive.

i honestly doubt Sandringham have the "stickability" or resilience within their support base to handle going stand alone. I heard they were likely to fall $400k short of required minimum turnover for a standalone, and that's why they've jumped deeper in to bed with St Kilda.

very nice win by the Town today against good opposition in their Melbourne jumpers, would have been better to kick a few steadiers in the last but Casey Melbourne Demons were never going to threaten, VERY healthy crowd also ...

Its not the support base Ron but the management that live off the St Kilda largress.

I find it interesting that Sandringham stalwarts like Mennie, Burgin and Galemberti are willing to run a seconnds side for St Kilda unless the Pub/Pokie option is still open

As the old saying goes you lie down with a lion and you eventually get eaten.

Then the short term solution must be to remove the board, replace with pro-stand alone candidates who have a plan and a realistic means to deliver on a plan for generating $800k to $1million turnover.

If it doesn't happen at the end of this year, then the opportunity to strike whilst Frankston are in recess could well be lost. It's a huge area Sandringham have to work with at the moment. I find it hard to believe they couldn't appeal to enough sponsors to generate at least half the turnover figures AFL Victoria would require. Just have to roll the sleeves up and give it a go.
