Port Melbourne game moved

Port Melbournes home game has been moved to Williamstown due to the centre square condition . All other details remain the same, time is still 2:10 and still a tv game. This has obviously frustrated the Port Melbourne football club community who are left wondering when will this problem end ???

A dent in Borough pride moving across the river to the old enemy

MegaA When you get rid of the centre wicket area and the cricket club like Sandringham did   at Beach Road Oval 30 years ago.If this keeps up North Port oval might lose the VFL finals as well.

Once upon a time, if the centre was not OK, they would simply mark out a new centre circle a little towards one of the rings and get on with it. Too sensible for the powers that be today!

Hard to have much sympathy for Port here, almost every decent ground in Melbourne have been renovated and sewn with summer grass over the last ten years, you raise the centre wicket table a little and you dont have a problem. It means being off the ground for usually twelve months but it's short term pain for long term gain.

Port will have to bite the bullet shortly but it will be worth it.

Hamstrung by a lack of funding into the playing surface thats for sure.

StationHotel suggested to me that Werribee may have been the best fit for this game, rather than Williamstown.  It does have a lot of positives..

1. Central to both clubs,

2. New facilities

3. Played there last week

3. New TV Broadcast facilites

Oh well.

Yeah good points about Werribee. We also have a fair few supporters around there that turn up so although the commentators said that the Port fans turned up in good numbers yesterday, I think the crowd would have been better still at Werribee.

Also with the weather being the way it was, Werribee may have been better for spectators comfort.

An email distributed to the Borough faithful :

Dear Members,

As you are aware, we have been experiencing serious issues in terms of the playing surface at North Port Oval.  Despite the collaboration of the Council and its officers, AFL Victoria and PMFC, there have been times where the surface is simply unsafe for use.  In the very short term, we continue to address the issues of the playing surface and are hopeful that they can be overcome.  More importantly, I am very excited to announce that once the football season is over in 2018, the North Port Oval will be subject to a 7 month complete reconstruction/upgrade including but not limited to new drainage, new irrigation, a sand based profile as well as new goal posts, interchange benches and fencing.

This will be the most significant make-over of the ground in its history, and it will entrench our oval as a boutique VFL stadium with an “all year round” playing surface. It will be the “jewel in the crown” of the City of Port Phillip. The planning required to make this happen is significant, and I am very appreciative of the support (technical and financial) that has been provided by the Council and its officers and AFL Victoria (as well as my Board of Directors) to make this possible.

Other ground developments will be advised as they are finalised.

We look forward to seeing you all at North Port for the rest of the year, and moreover, at the “new” North Port oval at the start of the 2019 home and away season.

Great news!  I hope that the new fencing will be of the same type as the present one.

There is no better sight than an oval with a white picket fence

At last, that's excellent news for Port, just don't be surprised if it extends out a little more than the estimated 7 months.

Finally get the mob that did Sandy's renovation not the mob that did Willy's,big difference.
