Current senior assistant coach Danny Ryan has been appointed coach of Dolphins for next 2 years. Great appointment
What is his background Robbo ?
Ryan was part of Skrobalak’s panel this year, overseeing the midfield, and has accepted a two-year deal in an appointment that gives continuity to the Frankston program.
He has much experience in coaching, starting with Pennant Hills Demons in Sydney AFL and then the NSW-ACT Under 18 Rams.
Ryan — who grew up on a dairy farm outside of Colac — returned to Victoria to work full-time as a development coach with St Kilda from 2009-12.
He was opposition coach for AFL club Port Adelaide in 2013-14, an assistant coach at Sandringham Dragons in 2015-16 and senior assistant coach at Casey Demons in 2017.
It’s believed VAFA club De La Salle was also keen on him to coach next year.
Might be ok for the dolphins. Best of luck
He'll be alright if Garry Buckenara has been involved in the selection !!
We might be from the bush. but we ain't green
Good luck to Danny, lets hope he can improve on this year. I dont know who else (if anyone) applied as the applications arent made public, but the fact that Paul Amy and other media guys were telling us a during the week applications closed that Danny was getting the job, makes you think there weren't many - maybe the same problem as last year and the financial package as a part time coach is not all that attractive.
Nothing coming out of Skybus Stadium at present regarding re-signings, new signings, departures etc....maybe some news after the draft.
Probably will be marginally better than this year. They however desperately need at least 3 experienced players to help out. Someone like Michael Barlow would be enormous get. Don't reckon he will be drafted so fair chance he could play at VFL level. Werribee his former club will no doubt have a look if he is available but the dolphins should be trying to recruit him regardless.
Agree Dolphins need at least 3 or 4 experienced players to progress next year. 2 big experienced defenders is absolutley essential, a key forward and a ruckman assuming Lewis Pierce would be unlikey to play for them next year.
