Understand sweeping changes are underway at AFL Victoria, with the AFL to absorb competitions management of the VFL and TAC Cup, the talent ID department, coaching development, Auskick, media etc. Effectively leaves AFL Vic to run community football. Might be announced soon.

I thought that the AFL already runs all that is mentioned above??

VFL competition has undergone major changes in its recent history,  hoping that we don't have too many more negative changes.  For me the worse of all was getting rid of the development league.

The loss of the DL was disgraceful. They cited the cost of running the competition, but it has reduced the strength and depth of clubs with no benefits. A smaller list but a significant reduction in the salary cap.

The $1 million figure for running the comp I feel that that money was still spent, but on womens footy, at the expense of the VFL.

Agreed NorthPort. The $1 million figure was a red herring too, as most of that was the estimated amount clubs put into their devt teams. None of that is a saving to AFL Vic, and clubs will still be spending a chunk of that money anyway as they still have 45-odd on their list.

Flying the VFLW teams up to Darwin every second week doesn't seem to be an issue, who pays for that?

If clubs had a economic problem fielding a development league side, let them decide if they want to continue or not - much like North Ballarat. If clubs were happy then they should have had a option in fielding a 2nds side. Is it that expensive for the AFL to provide a fixture, umpires and a trophy ??

It's not as if clubs saved on resources, as the dev sides were replaced by womens sides, they don't run themselves. I don't know many competitions that only field seniors without reserves, you would expect more professionalism from the competition that boasts to be the 2nd best nation wide.
