We wish to advise that Gary Buckenara and the Frankston Dolphins are parting ways as Gary’s role as GM of Frankston Football Club comes to a close. The Board would like to express thanks to Gary for his significant role managing the club over the last 2 years in what has been a most challenging and difficult time.

The Club will make announcements about the future management of the football club in the next few days.

On behalf of members, sponsors and stakeholders we would like to wish Gary all the best in his future endeavours.

Peter Geddes

FFC President

Im in a state of disbelief...

Bucky was sacked by the club yesterday - unbelievably  to move in a new management direction. There are many, many members of this club up in arms about this. After what this great man did for this club - they may not have gotten off the ground except for him, He put in an unbelieveable amount of time and  effort in restoring the club, recruiting a record number of members, record sponsorship, etc etc, and now he has been sacked and thrown on the unemployment line - for nothing.

I fear this footy club has shot itself in the foot - no, in the heart.

Peter Geddes and the Frankston Board, hang your miserable heads in shame ..

Below is a copy and paste from Garys Linkedin page with his view on what happened.

"After 2 years helping to rebuild to Frankston VFL Dolphins I am told yesterday that they want to go in a different management direction! This is after building membership from around 180 to a record 1200+ and having the highest ever sponsorship dollars in the clubs long history and one of the highest in the VFL today! I worked a minimum 50 hours per week and up to 70 during the season, I used my contacts and football friends to speak at functions and helped raise many thousands dollars for the club, Leigh Matthews, Dippa, Dermott, Russell Morris, Dougie Hawkins, Tony Liberatore and helped secure Luke Beveridge, John Longmire and Alastair Clarkson all helped when asked. So you could imagine my disbelief when told my role was terminated yesterday! I still have much to offer any firm out there with life knowledge and experience, contacts, work ethic, leadership, people and staff motivational skills. I have obviously been involved in football for the last 20 years as a recruiting manager and general manager but I have been involved in the tyre and automotive industry and the Event Management industry in senior management. I would be happy to speak with any firm with regards to employment, who thinks that I might be a good fit for them."

Couldn't be due to lack of achievements as he had ticked all the right boxes. Was it a cost cutting decision ?

Moving in a new direction - vague crap for - "we don't know or want to tell you why your gone".

Mega its hard to think of anything else it could be. As you said , he'd ticked every box. He was high profile and his work ethic cant be questioned. If this comes out as a money saving excercise, the club will be lucky to have a member left. Jesus Christ, after everything he did for them, they didnt even give him any notice, just threw him out.. piss poor by the club.

Hopefully Geddes will tell us why this decision was made, but Im not holding my breath. The new GM will be announced in a day or two, perhaps we will have more of an idea then.

Incidentally the post on their Facebook page with members comments on this looks likes its been removed....hopefully they are feeling some heat.

From the outside this looks an incredibly short sighted decision, let's hope it's not the beginning of the end.

From the outside it looks like their thinking is ok we have done the hard work, we havethe members now, we have the sponsorship, club has been set up now we will take over from here and try and sustain it with a new GM on a lesser wage.

A week has passed and still no anouncment of a new GM. There is a post on their Facebook page asking who is playing for Frankston this year. Five days from round 1 and still no notification from the club of the list for this year, jumper numbers, captain and leadership group etc.  Website looks likes its been unattended for some time. Really poor by the club.

I guess this is what happens when you sack a gun GM for no reason.

Bucky announced on Linkedin that he's got another job, which is great for him, but very disappointing that the timing of his sacking means that he is now lost to Football.

Well done Peter Geddes and your committee.
