VFL R15 - Port Melbourne v Northern Blues

Not sure quite what to say. Very disappointed. The Blues started strongly and looked the better team early. Port talking by about 5 goals at the quarter time break. But the last quarter was a polar opposite. But port couldn't quite get over the line.

I'm going to continue this post tomorrow morning when I've had the chance to give it some thought.

I'm still pissed off about it. The umpiring yesterday was bloody poor throughout. I'm not one to blame or criticise umpiring normally but found that exceptionally bad, too the point where it changed the result of the game.

For those that weren't there, Port Melbourne hit the lead with under a minute to go, with Eli Templeton running in to goal after the ball was surged forward. But with less than a 30 seconds left the umpires paid a holding the ball decision that was never a few kick and should have been just a ball up. No prior opportunity and nothing like that had been paid all day. The Blues had a shot after the siren from about 25 metres out and goaled to win the game.

The crowd was understandably filthy but the umpiring had been shocking throughout the day.

One umpire in particular was grinning as he left the ground and gave 'the finger' to my father who is in his 80s. It was bordering on contempt for the game and capped off the most unprofessional umpiring I have seen since Camberwell played its lasts seasons in Club 18 ammos.

Worrying times for Port, when did they last lose 3 home games in a row, throw in a draw v Willy to make it worse.
Need to turn it around pretty quickly,Werribee at Chirnside won't be easy either.

NorthPort, The biggest problem with the game at the moment is the umpires !

There is a set of rules in place that the umpires refuse to administer

The incorrect disposable rule is an absolute farce with many players being tackled virtually throwing the ball clear with one hand & not being penalised plus my main bitch is the over the head "handpasses" which are clearly throws of which the boundary umps would be very envious.

We might be from the bush. but we ain't green

Digs pretty sure Gilligan and the crew have repealed the incorrect disposal rule and have forgotten to tell us. Same thing at Frankston today, must have been at least 50 tackles that led to incorrect disposal and not one free kick. I feel sorry for all the dickheads who stand there all day yelling "ball"... they're wasting their breath - they hardly ever get a result anymore.

Umpiring standard in the VFL is abysmal and getting worse by the week.

I was at Port but was not close enough to the incident to see if the free kick was justified.

Giving a free kick against Port 25 metres out from Nth Blues goal, in the last seconds of the game, when Port was 2pts ahead was as a courageous decision.

The incident was shown on the telecast yesterday, didn't appear to be much in it, i'm sure 100 other similar incidents would have occurred during the day without a free being paid so why pick that one out? That's why people get so frustrated with the umpiring.

On the subject of umpiring, I'm 100% certain they have been instructed to ignore the blatant throwing that has crept into the game in an effort to speed the play up and restrict stoppages. What other possible explanation could there be? There are three umpires out there and they can't possibly be all unable to see the throwing of the ball. And don't get me started on kicks travelling 5 metres and being paid a mark.

Can anyone EVER remember an overhead handball being deemed a throw ??

If they have changed  the rules let the supporters know !!
