Practice match v the Bullants
Body:
Despite an eight goal last quarter to Preston, Port held on to post a strong 21.10.136 to 14.10.94 win. Port got of to a flyer with a 7-to-1 goal quarter. Preston then fought their way back to trail at half-time 7.2 to 5.6, but in the third quarter Port stretched the margin out, with the scores 16.8 to 6.9. The Borough had 14 goals scorers which is an encouraging sign. Pitt, McKernan and H all spent time at FF. In the centre Grima had an absolute ton of the ball, and used it well, Watson did well keeping his opposition to a handful of touches. Tim Hazell looks to have settled in well, and will be a good addition to the side. Perkins must have had a hell of a lot of possesions, as he seemed to be on his own for a lot of the game. His disposal was better than in recent weeks, and he finished up as the top goal scorer with 3. In defence, Baird played very well, and Obst was his ususal self running out of the backline. There were passages of play where we looked like world beaters, but I think the coaching staff would still be looking for Port to lift in standard again for Round 1 against the Tigers. When we don't over-possess the ball, and move it quickly we look like we should again be in for a good season. I saw most of the second half of the Reserves match... Preston held on to win 9.6.60 to 7.12.54. Bonaddio took a couple of good pack marks, and Bloom got a lot of the ball, Gibson and Sharpe got a few possessions as well. North Melbourne listed players in the twos included Scott McMahon, Josh Gibson and Brad Moran.
