Well today we were pretty much uncompetitive for most of the game. The Bullants beat us across the ground, and were faster and stronger. Their intensity seemed to be better and the supply into their forward line resulted in Port copping one of the biggest hidings in recent memory.
Northern Bullants 6.1 13.5 20.6 28.8 (176) Port Melbourne 2.2 4.2 9.5 13.6 (84) BEST: Northern Bullants: Betts O'Hailpin Simpson Becker Clarke Bentick Port Melbourne: Schwarze Cotchett Watson Alexander Smith GOALS: Northern Bullants: Betts 6 O'Hailpin 4 Bentick 3 Morrell 3 Blackwell 2 Becker 2 Clarke Colbert Young McGrath Simpson Raso Bryan Bannister Port Melbourne: Harvey 3 McIntosh 3 Pitt 2 Perkins Cotchett Smith Harding McKernan REPORTED PLAYERS: Port Melbourne: L. Harding #39 of Port Melbourne for Wrestling A. Bentick #40 of the Northern Bullants in the 3rd quarter. A. Watson #24 of Port Melbourne for Wrestling A. Bentick #40 of the Northern Bullants during the 3rd quarter.
The free kick count at 3/4 time was 30 to 9 in the Bullants favour. The Bullants were beating us to the ball, but even so, the standard of umpiring was piss-poor. When your side is down, and your players chase a bloke down to lay a great tackle, and the ump says there was no prior op, or simply calls play on when the ball breaks loose is enough to make you want to jump the fence! Injuries meant we were down to 1 on the bench, with LeCras, Milhuissen, Hooker all injured. Lawrence looked injured/unfit, and a heap of players seemed to hardly touch the ball. McKernan looks like a spent force. The bye this weekend for seniors and reserves will complicate things, but might be a chance to get a couple of the unfit guys back into the side. Chad Jones and Trotter both missed out this week due to injury. Badly miss Chad Jones, and he might be picked to replace McKernan who just isn't having an influence on the game. in the reserves... A win, but not without some cause for concern. I suppose at the end of the day they came away with the 4 points. Scores: Northern Bullants 2.1 4.7 6.8 11.11 (77) Port Melbourne 7.1 10.4 13.10 13.11 (89) Port got a spray at 3/4 time, that they should be far further ahead, as we were by far the more skilled side. But Prestons intensity had kept them in the game. The bullants were beaten by about 110 points last week. So Filandia told the side that we should be doing a hell of a lot better than we were. The final quarter we took the foot off the pedal, and they got back into the game, mostly with late goals, which took the shine off an otherwise good effort. Gibson, Thewlis, Pinwill, Bonaddio, and Moran were good, plus some good work from a couple of others who will be thereabouts for selection in a fortnight after the bye. To answer Taras question much earlier in the thread. Sam Dwyer is going ok, he hasn't been outstanding, and is rotated on and off the bench a fair bit as far as Ive seen. The club is probably looking for 2005 to be a year for him to just build some consistency and good form for the following year.
