My DVD recorder arrives tomorrow..
So I can finally start moving all the Grand Finals from 1980 onwards onto DVD... The tapes from those days are getting pretty grainy :(

I've just transferred 1981 across to DVD. The original is pretty worn, but it still holds up pretty well. What a lop-sided game in the end. Funny to see the players just go off the ground after the final siren, with no presentation on the ground.

considering the relatively poor quality of the original. Im pretty happy with the result! Ive got to borrow 81 through to 85, and then I will need to get some DVD+Rs. I havent tested the unit with TV yet, but will try it out shortly.

How many of the old VFA Grand Finals have you on DVD ? How many old VFA matches have you on Video. I alsohave a good list of old games. Maybe we can swap lists and I can copy games you don't have and vice versa. Thanks

Sounds good. I have every GF since 81. Also have a host of Port Melbourne games from the mid-90s onwaords. I have a handful of finals including the Camberwell V Frankston 2nd Semi from 84. I am trying to put a list together so I will post it up when I finally get back to working on them.

Average.. I need to get my act together! I have done about 4 of the Grand Finals.. some look better than others. I'll try and get a decent list together prior to the start of the 2006 season.

Its DVD+R and +RW because its a dodgy brand and it's the only media it supports. I have had a few problems with the device locking up and it has already been replaced once. Its not reliable, but on the plus side, its SP record mode is excellent. It seems to crash due to heat related issues. I really don't use it much, and the record feature I only use for converting videos.

This is starting to sound like techno geek time, but I got a VHS/DVD combo the other day to just run straight from VHS to DVD, the idea being that less cable, better quality. Havent played with it much but I have recorded some TV just to see how it works. There are about 8million VHS tapes in the storeage room that I want to dump to DVD and save some space and quality. Maybe I can help out Ons with getting them from VHS to DVD. By the way, they seem to have solved the overheating issue with a couple of fans in the unit. Gee, I can't beleive we are even discussing this. It must be late. I'm going to bed.

Dolphin I have a DVD/Video JVC which converts videos to DVDs. I am slowly converting my old VFA tapes to DVDs. I have had it for around 12 months. I emailed Brian Mace regarding the 1978 VFA 2nd Division Grand Final between Frankston v Camberwell at Toorak Park. He said he lent it to someone a few years back and never got it back. That game is still out there somewhere. It would be good to get a copy of it. I also have a fairly large VFA taped catalogue like Onslaught and I am always on the lookout for more. I can copy DVD formats for old VFA games and hope to get copies of games that I have not got, especially old games from the 70s and 80s.
