AS if the Tassie Devils' lack of success on the field wasn't bad enough, a former fitness trainer is now considering legal action after claiming he is owed about $10,000 by the club.

Russell Kapper had been employed by the VFL side since last season, but had a falling out with coach Daryn Cresswell in April.

During an away game against North Ballarat, Kapper had been out late and was locked out of his hotel room after forgetting his key.

After waking some of the players in an effort to get back in, it was decided the following Monday at a meeting his role with the side would be reduced as punishment.

AFL Tasmania general manager Scott Wade refused to comment directly on the issue, but was disappointed with the handling of the matter.

"It is disappointing that Russell has chosen to air his dirty linen through the media," Wade said.

"We will consistently deal with any issues or problems we have with part-time or full-time staff face-to-face, directly to them."

Kapper said he was told he would be contacted when his services were required, but still hasn't heard anything four months on. He said his monthly payments have now stopped.

He said his relationship with Cresswell deteriorated when he felt he was being pushed out of the program.

"I was the state conditioning coach and as part of that I would write the programs to get everyone fit," Kapper said.

"I received a letter which stated thanks for the meeting where it was decided his services would be scaled back.

"It was just reiterating because of what happened that Saturday night they were reducing my role and I only need to attend sessions when contacted. No one ever rung me."

While admitting he did the wrong thing, Kapper denies he was drunk and said the action taken was excessive.

Kapper said he hasn't been to AFL Tasmania to discuss the matter as they made the decision to terminate his contract.

And he is adamant if there is no solution by the end of the Devils' season he will take further action.
