Casey Scorpions were not in the VFL last season ,but Springvale were. That Club no longer exists in the VFL. So a new club namely Casey Scorpions established at Cranbourne is now in their place, correct or not that is the fact. go zebs zebra
[quote:7dc1e44507="zebra"]Same week as the wooden spooners play, why pick on first year club Casey ,they have done well for the VFL and have a great future as many clubs will support them in their huge endeavour to promote VFL footy to the growth area of S/E Melbourne. Go zebs Zebra.
How are they are first year club?
I agree with Dolphin they are not a first year club. They are a relocated club. The Scorpions had a poor year remember they will 4-2 early on.

OK ,Conceded they were Springvale and moved to Cranbourne and changed name to Casey Scorps but new ground ,new supporters (although few at the moment) they will get better and surely it was a bold move and deserves credit for looking forward. go zebs zebra

Official VFL site suggests that they entered the competition in 1982. http://vfl.footballvic.com.au/default.aspx?s=clubsdisplay&aid=89688

their 1st game in Div 1 was against Sandy at Newcomen Rd....Sandy kicked 33 goals I think...Brewer and Morrison both got 10 if I remember rightly... Still...Springvale have been a huge success story...quite a few flags to show Along with Sandy they were the 2 teams of the 90's..

Only come good after Dandy folded, with the likes of Denis Knight and Co. Please don't get me started when a lot of the old VFA teams got the boot, then this mob were saved by Casey Council. I know I will get a lot of feedback for saying that, but who cares.

Both Springvale and Frankston benefited from Dandenong folding, Frankston picking up Mead and Millane ?? Springvale in the '90's had a solid, consistent bunch of players with a settled defence. Taylor, Burgmann, Little, Sutherland, Carroll J and D, O'Donnell, Knight, Clark, all top players around for a while. Like Sandy the last couple of years, enjoyed being the underdog come GF day. Enjoyed seeing Willy beat them at Spring in '96 and '97, but not much joy other than that. Dandenong in the '70's were also solid and consistent, but more attacking. Along with vfa's list above, there was Brian Shinners, Ray Orchard, Danny Hibbert, Travis Payze, Lou Wright, Dereck Harrington, Neville Esler. Remember Ray Biffen taking mark of the day at Frankston, but landed on his back so couldn't take the kick and went off the ground.

Springvale won a flag in 1987 before Dandenong folded so they were a handy side before they got the Dandenong players... Sandy got a very good player in Nick Murray...
