Whats Werribee's excuse?
I reckon the Tigers have slipped through the net a bit this year, copping very little criticism for what has been a disgraceful season. They went into the year with a list many would have claimed was close to, if not the best, in the VFL. Have some of their recruits let them down? I think Atkins signed a two year deal with Werribee last year when the Devils came knocking, personally I think he's got a better reputation as a coach than his record deserves, but at the time an extension was warranted. How's he coached this year? Whats been the cause of their demise this season? They've had a history of crumbling in finals, but its been a few years since they've not at least been a part of September action. Ot for the true Werribee fans is there any resentment towards the alignment? I haven' been down there this year so I'm after the thoughts of you Werribee fans who I think have been a bit quiet - c'mon discuss!

I thought they were abck after 2 100+ point wins in a row early on, but nothing came of it!

Just a neutral perspective, but I can't believe how flaky some of the Bulldogs players have been - something which has seeped down from their insipid AFL side. Admittedly they're of only VFL talent, but guys like Castello, Young, Rockefeller and Lavars have been both the best extractors and users of the footy for Werribee in the games I've seen. Another factor has been losing Podsiadly (or playing him half-fit). It has shown up their reliance on one key forward. Skipper has been OK at best in the VFL, while Andrew McDougall spent games floundering in the VFL Reserves. Their full-back (Henderson) is OK, but struggles to outmuscle the bigger bodied forwards. Also tends to give away a couple of inches in the air. Skinny Bulldogs defenders haven't given them much protection down back. As for Atkins - they regularly stuff up their kick-in set ups (both with and without the ball), but that's a 'feature' of all VFL teams. It's only ten weeks ago that Werribee were being lauded for their attacking footy. But they've never recovered from their flogging at TEAC Oval, or received the support they need from fringe AFL players to play finals footy.

You are right Footyman. They have been poor. But maybe the VFL list is over-rated. I've just gone over it and I reckon Podsiadly and Castello are the only real guns. Young, Robinson, Barham, Henderson, Furfaro, Howard and Gleeson are more handy players than stars. They've really missed Travis Robertson, Michael Sleeman, Salim Hassan and James Allan. And the Bulldog group this year contained a few light-bodied kids (ie Hill, Lynch, Stack) I reckon they've got a bit of work to do on the list over summer. Ben Carbinaro will be in a good position to comment...

It's a fair point you make re. their list, but theres plenty of fellas who have had been AFL listed or AFL rookies such as Jordan Barham, Nick Batchelor, Andrew Ericksen, Jake Furfaro, Jarrod Garth, Teghan Henderson, Scott Howard, James Podsiadly, Tim Sheringham. And of course the two who left - Chambers and Forster-Knight. Combined with their own list of Castello, Gleeson, Robinson and some talented young ex Falcons like Wormald, Lavars, Rockefeller surely thats a decent base to build a team on. But maybe my theory on Port Melbourne last year applies to Werribee this year, I think most delisted rookies are let go because they have one major flawed deficiency in their game. And to get a number of them into a VFL club ends up being of no real benefit. A club is probably better trying to get some decent players out of local footy or the amateurs.

For a stand alone club the BOROUGHS did okay this year against the bees????????

One to look out for next season is ruckman Liam Gardiner, from local club Seddon-Yarraville. They had no Bulldogs players to rely on in ruck on the weekend against Geelong, and Gardiner was quite handy. We'll see what comes of him next season.

I think Rockefeller is going to be a very good player. But Footyman if you judge the list by the highest standards (ie Sandringham's), does it really measure up? I don't think it does. I reckon they went from having five guns last year to two in 2007. The shame for them is it never worked out with big Chambers. If I was Werrivbee I'd be doing everything possible to get Salim Hassan back. Someone was saying he's playing for St Kilda in the southern league. What a bloody waste!

I think the main problem that we have had this year is that we have struggled in quite a number of games to play a full four quarters. We have dropped our heads too many times in the last quarter and lacked discipline in my opinion, I've been saying it for quite a few weeks now. Yes, Sal is playing with St Kilda City in the SFL this year but we are trying to hopefully get him back for season 2008 and if we did, it will add some more speak to our midfield department. Footyman, do you mean that I would upset our general manager?

Jimmy Allan is a huge loss for Werribee - if he did not break his arm he would have won the Liston

Very true about Jim Allan. He is dominating in the SANFL for North Adelaide this year and should poll well in the Magery Medal, it's a shame he didn't stay with us.
