Could not possibly play at Arden Street at the moment. More chance to play at Gillon Oval. For North it will be Lavington, Wangaratta, Coburg, possibly Carlton and even Gold Coast.

you know what, this might sound weird, but from a VFL supporters point of view, this could potentially be day 1 of when the VFL starts to find its feet again...

Maybe this is why Laidley has held off for signing, its been said that its not his earnings or term of length that he hasnt signed it because he has asked for more money to be put into the football department - is this a hidden agenda for the club to have a stand alone team??? Is this the real reason why he hasnt signed? If NB dont want a full alignment & Frankston have said no - there really is no other option is there? Maybe they play out of QAFL?? - like how the storm have a feeder team in QLD?

North Ballart might go full alignment thinking that the extra afl players might push them a bit futher in the finals? I know thats what the Devils were thinking when they went with the Kangaroos

It would be a shame if they made the decision to go with a full alignment because it would ruin the wonderful working relationship that they have with the Rebels in giving kids an opportunity to play senior VFL football.

Latest press release regarding WFC future Stand alone and deliver The Werribee Football Club will join Frankston and Port Melbourne as ‘stand alone’ clubs in the VFL from next season. Following the dissolution of the alignment with the Western Bulldogs the Werribee board was left with a number of options. These were thoroughly explored. They included 1 Stand alone 2 Partial alignment 3 Full alignment After talks with AFL Victoria representatives and following a presentation and discussions with the Kangaroos, the board carefully considered its position and its obligation to serve its members. Acting in the best interests of the future of the club, it was decided the Werribee Football Club would stand alone from season 2008. President John Nicol fully understands the challenges ahead. “The Board has made a decision, a very bold decision, but it has done so after working through the pros and cons of each option available to us. This change in direction for the club will mean an even bigger commitment from the board members and everyone involved with the club, from staff to supporters. While this will bring enormous challenges it also will provide the opportunity to regain and rebuild the Werribee Football Club name and identity. We control our destiny and our future lies firmly in the hands of the people of the City of Wyndham”. City of Wyndham Mayor Councillor Shane Bourke is unequivocal in his support of the club. “The Werribee Football Club is more than just a football team. It is part of the fabric of our community. It’s success helps the image and profile of the City of Wyndham. The club’s decision to stand alone typifies the steely resolve of those involved. The club though will not be standing alone because my fellow councillors and I and everyone in the City of Wyndham will be right behind the club. The people of our community are famous for rallying behind a cause and I am sure securing the future of our football club will bring out that community spirit again”. Mr. Nicol says it is business as usual for the club. “The pressure is on to recruit players and sponsors to the club as it always is at this time of year but the magnitude and urgency of the situation has increased enormously. The importance of Simon Atkins (Senior Coach) and Mark Penaluna (General Manager) is paramount to the future of the club and I urge everyone to support them to the max.”

I've been following Werribee since I was young (I was 8 in 1991 when they won the flag, the days of Jack Aziz and Donald McDonald, *sigh*), but I'm also a lifelong Bulldogs supporter. So obviously this situation has left me a little torn. While I'm proud of Werribee for the decision they've made, I'm also very concerned as to whether or not the club can survive as a standalone club. They are not the strongest or richest club going around. I think they're going to have to do a lot of work to get support from the community to make it work. Fortunately they've had great support from the Werribee Banner and Wyn FM so they've got the local media covered. Hopefully they can take full advantage of that.
