Time for some changes at Werribee
Not that long ago such a vibrant club, with a really good list, atmosphere at their games with big crowds and seemingly a key team in the competition. Now, too often an inconsistent mess - beaten today by the hapless Box Hill Hawks. I don't think we have too many Werribee supporters on here, and the ones who are have other restrictions that stop them from commenting but surely they need some changes down there. For some time now I've believed Axe is not the man to coach that footy club - nothing against him but I just can't see the Bees getting anywhere in the short term. The club seem to have a lot of faith in the current man but there's a new breed of coach belting on the door that Werribee would be foolish to ignore if the clubs fortunes don't turn soon. Many astute VFL followers will tell you Werribee had the best list in the VFL last year - a list that proved incapable of making the finals. Many of that list were frustrated with the 'selection issues' last season. Fact. Werribee's attempts to edge into the Western Jets territory caused some conflict and was aggressive and unreasonable, while the Bulldogs also piked on what was once a successful partnership. They've had a few good wins this year, but they're inconsistent. The reality is they aren't far away from a finals berth still. But its sad to see the turn in fortune that club has had over the past two years particularly. Even more disheartening when you look at their list and see some loyal blokes and people who have given that footy club very good service over 5-10 years such as Gleeson, Podsy and Henderson chugging away on a train that doesn't seem to be going anywhere. What is wrong with them?

What were the issues with the Jets? Surely the two clubs are targeting different players when recruiting/talent spotting?

Maybe you overrated the list last year Footyman. Best in the comp? Ahead of Sandy (Summers, Valenti, Liddell, Crowe, Lamb, Poyas, Sautner etc)? No way. Ahead of Willy? No again. This year they're young (then again it's a young man's competition). What they needed was one or two gun recruits to give support to Pods, Castello, Henderson and Gleeson but they couldn't land them. The funny thing is, the `name' guys they have picked up recently haven't worked out. I'm thinking here of the big ruckman, Paul Chambers, and also Robbie Forster-Knight. It's a good post though. I reckon Atkins will really have to produce something special this year to hold his job. He's had a good stab at it and the results have been modest.

One thing that i noticed when port played werribee two kangaroo players gave away fifty metre penalities where was the runner ,no where in sight ,whose running the team maybe its LAIDLEY.interesting

Well he tried to do it when they were aligned with port.. that was a major reason for the breakdown in the relationship.. Remember all the issues with Shane Harvey getting dropped to the 2's...

The best thing that werribee could do is give north melb the lemon and sarse it may take a couple of years to get back on your feet but at least werribee will be in control.

It seems the Kangaroos a buggering up another team. Perhaps Nth Ballart should share the secret on how to make a Kangaroos alignment work. Hopefully for the Devils Werribee struggles this week so we can finally beat them.

It's all about people and communication. The Roosters could not be more happier with the Kangaroo partnership. It takes two to tango.

We might be from the bush. but we ain't green

Werribee should have stuck to there guns and went stand alone. They are in a location where they should be able to target many potential recruits, especially locally where junior clubs such as Hoppers crossing and Werribee Juniors swell with numbers every season. They also have a great link to players from TAC Cup teams western Jets and Geelong Falcons. What are Werribee like financially??? There going ok I believe. By standing alone it would give local players something to aspire to and know that there would be plenty of spots on the list.
