Borough storm into GF after emphatic victory over Seagulls
By Justin Cooper

The Port Melbourne reserves landed themselves a grand final berth this weekend after their impressive 54 point win over arch rival Williamstown at TEAC Oval on Sunday.

It was a tight and contested first term, which saw 6 goals kicked between the two sides, as both sides drew level at 21-apiece at the first break.

The Borough slammed on a 4 goal to 2 second term, as the Seagulls stood 12 points adrift of their opponents at the main break.

The third term conspired with the second, as the Borough put on a 22 point buffer going into 3/4 time.

The Borough came out firing in the final stanza, slamming 6 goals on the scoreboard to 1, as the Borough won 17.10 (112) to 8.10 (58).

Forwards Andrew Gilham (5 goals) and Dean Kelly (5 goals) were fantastic upfront, while ruckman Rhys Bloomfield (1 goal), Rees Thomas (2 goals), Marcus Carroll (2 goals), Sam Dwyer (1 goal), as well as Rowan Nayna and Luke Peel running off half-back were all instrumental in the win.

The Seagulls didn’t have many winners on the park but Murray Boyd, Anthony Chiu, Sharrod Wellingham (1 goal), Brent Macaffer (1 goal) and Daniel Nicholls were all productive despite the loss.

The win by the Borough grants them a Grand Final berth against the Coburg Tigers at MC Labour Park next Sunday while the Seagulls’ season has now officially drawn to a close.
