The State Game Curtain Raiser
Is the squad to be named on the same day as the state side (May 12th)? Am really looking forward to this game. Anyone got some names of players who should be in these sides?

Teh curtain raiser is U22 players, right? Will be a great display of the talent the VFL has on offer.

In all honesty, it could be possible for guys who have not played any senior footy this year to be selected to play in this game. Much of the U22 talent plays reserves at VFL level.

I'd love to see guys like Darcey and Malcolm Dow getting a go, as well as blokes like Sam Rudolph and Cam Howat! Honestly can't wait.

Football Victoria football operation assistant Stacey Goad said the North versus South match had been organised at the request of AFL recruiting staff. AFL rookies are not eligible. Ms Goad said many youngsters who missed being drafted directly out of the TAC Cup went on to the VFL and this match was a way of keeping them under the eye of AFL recruiting staff. The age structure for the match means all players will be eligible for this year's AFL rookie draft. Ms Goad said there was every possibility the under-22 match would become an annual event - even next year when the VFL did have any interstate commitments while SA played WA. North Ballarat Roosters coach Gavin Crosisca is assistant coach of the "North" team, which is being coached by Coburg's David Flood. Andy Collins (Box Hill) is coaching the "South" with Peter Banfield (Scorpions) as his assistant.

AFL rookies are not eligible.
Interesting, but when you think about it, the teams could be made of about 60% AFL rookies, so excluding them gives more VFL kids a go.

North Ballarat have the best young list in the VFL. Players like McCorkell - Chester - Foott - Whyman all playing senior football. If they dont get up to 10 players in the side its a joke!!!!!!!

Sorry Fred, don't think you will get 10 players up ... 3/4 of the competition are eligible. Apparently the selection process is asking for AFL recruiters input - that will be interesting. There should be a few make the Senior side with the way some of the 'more experienced' players are playing presently.

Looks like the Under 22 concept only lasted the one season.
