:D Interesting to spot former Sandy halfback Russell Petherbridge in todays newspaper,brings back memories when he was a dynamite backman for the Zebras in 1968 and played the game of his life to demolish Dandenong at Dandy . Russell was tough and fair but he wanted to be a bit hippy and grew his beard very long although he still played good footy in the country later winning b&f Bendigo league.
But the main reason that Rus happened to leave Sandy was the then Coach Barry 'Hooker'' Harrison said 'shave it off' or go, so Rus left unfortunately.
It was a sad end to his promising VFA career.
