The final round, what will happen?
Here is the final round draw and what the possibilities are SATURDAY Sandringham(1st 15-2) vs Coburg Tigers(3rd 12-5) at Trevor Barker Oval,Sandringham 1:10pm (ABC TV Victoria) This game will be a good warm up for the finals as neither team can change positions particularly for Coburg to see where they are at leading into their qualifying final against Geelong. Box Hill Hawks(12th 4-12-1) vs Werribee (11th 6-11) at Box Hill City Oval 2pm Both teams just playing for pride. Looking to finish off the season with a win. Casey Scorpions(6th 8-8-1) vs Frankston (10th 6-10-1) at Casey Fields, Cranbourne East 2pm(Casey Radio) Casey can drop as low as 8th should they lose this game but will make finals even if they lose. Frankston will be looking for a win to finish the year against their arch rivals. This should be a cracker. Port Melbourne(9th 7-9-1) vs Northern Bullants(8th 8-9) at TEAC Oval, Port Melbourne 2pm (3XX 1611AM) This is the match of the round. The equation is simple WIN and you will be playing finals. LOSE and you miss out. Tasmania(13th 2-15) vs Williamstown(4th 9-6-2) at Bellerive Oval 2:07pm (ABC TV Tasmania Live) For the Devils this is their last chance to win a game at home something they have not been able to do this year. For the Seagulls this is a chance for them to have a good warm up headng into a qualifying final against Sandringham. SUNDAY Bendigo Bombers(7th 8-9) vs Geelong(2nd 13-4) at Queen Elizabeth Oval,Bendigo 2pm Bendigo can fall to 8th with a loss but will be playing finals and can go to 6th with a win. For Geelong this is a good warm up game for them heading into a qualifying final against the Coburg Tigers. North Ballarat(5th 10-8 ) have the bye and will be watching on to see who they will meet in an elimination final.

Michael, I enjoyed your Round 20 assessment. Hasn't Bendigo done well to climb into the eight considering its shoddy start?

In the reserves competition the top 3 sides can all change leading into the final round and there is also a battle for 5th spot. SATURDAY Sandringham (7th 8-9) vs Coburg Tigers (1st 14-3) at Trevor Barker Oval,Sandringham 10:20am Coburg must win to take minor premiership and week off. For the Zebras they can not make finals and will be looking to finish the year off with a win. Box Hill Hawks(5th 9-7-1) vs Werribee (2nd 13-3-1) at Box Hill City 11:10am This the match of the round. Box Hill must win to make finals if they lose must rely on bottom side Bendigo Bombers upsetting North Ballarat or keeping a close game. For Werribee a win and they could finish minor premiers should Coburg lose, a loss and they can fall to 3rd. Port Melbourne(3rd 13-3-1) vs Northern Bullants (10th 3-14) at TEAC Oval 11:10am A win for the Borugh and they could be minor premiers if both Coburg and Werribee lose. If they lose they can not finish lower than 3rd. The Bullants are looking to upset the Borough and avoid the wooden spoon they are ahead of Bendigo by 1.4% SUNDAY Bendigo Bombers(11th 3-14) vs North Ballarat(6th 8-8-1) at Queen Elizabeth Oval,Bendigo 11:10am The Roosters will know leading into the game what they will need to do if Box Hill are beaten by Werribee they will need to win by around 10 goals to pass Box Hill and make the finals. Not Impossible. Williamstown(4th 11-5-1) vs Casey Scorpions (9th 3-13-1) at Burbank Oval,Williamstown 2pm Not alot riding on this game. Williamstown can not move from 4th place and will play in Elimination final. Casey will be looking to finish off the year on a good note. Frankston(8th 6-12) have the Bye and can not move from their 8th position.

Port v Preston will be a classic no holds barred desperation clash. Winner plays in the finals with the loser missing out. I remember the last home and away match in 2nd Division in 1976. Northcote played Camberwell at Camberwell Sports Ground. The winner made the finals. Mothballs for the loser. At quarter time Northcote had piled on 12.6.78 with the wind. In the end the dragons won by 5 goals to earn a spot in the four. They lost the first semi to Williamstown by a couple of points in a match they should have won. The seagulls then won the prelim against Frankston coming from 5 goals down at three quarter time then thrashed a hot Mordialloc in the Grand Final by 57 points going into the game as rank outsiders. Has anyone got memories from any games from the old days from the last round- winners makes the finals type matches like you will see at Port Melbourne this Saturday ???
