Semi Finals Preview
After an amazing 1st week of the finals lets have a look at this weekend's semi finals. SATURDAY 1st Semi Final Sandringham vs North Ballarat at TEAC Oval,Port Melbourne 1:10pm (ABC TV,3XX 1611AM) North Ballarat are coming off one of the greatest turnarounds in VFA/VFL finals history. For the Zebras they come off a narrow 2 point loss at home to Williamstown. The big question in this game is can North Ballarat continue there momentum from their amazing 2nd half or will the Zebras who will have their Melbourne contingent back look to turnaround a narrow loss. They split their 2 meetings this year. I think the Zebras will be too strong for the Roosters and set up a mouth watering clash with Geelong in the 2nd Preliminary Final. Meetings in 2007: Round 8 Saturday 2nd June Austar Arena North Ballarat 18-15(123) def Sandringham 13-10(88 ) (Chester(NBa) 4 Goals, Newton(Sand) 5 goals) Cartledge and Sansbury were best for the Roosters, Summers and Dunn best for the Zebras. Round 19 Saturday 19th August Trevor Barker Oval,Sandringham Sandringham 17-23(125) def North Ballarat 8-14(62) (Sautner(Sand) 4 goals, Edwards,Thomas and Gregg(NBall) 2 goals each) Valenti and Poyas best for Zebras, Lower and Goodes best for the Roosters. My Tip: Sandringham by 23 points SUNDAY 2nd Semi Final Coburg Tigers vs Port Melbourne at TEAC Oval,Port Melbourne 1:10pm (ABC TV,Casey Radio,3XX 1611AM) Coburg stayed with the Cats for the first three quarters but couldn't hold on against the classy Cats. The Borough will be coming in full of confidence after a great win against the Scorpions. Coburg will get Daniel Jackson, Nick Riewoldt and a couple of others back from Richmond for this game and they look too strong for the Borough. Can Port sustain the pressure for all 4 quarters to stick with the Tigers all day. Port do have the advantage of playing at home. Coburg won their only neeting this year comfortably. The winner of this match plays Williamstown in the 1st Preliminary Final. Only meeting in 2007: Round 12 Sunday 1st July Coburg City Oval Coburg Tigers 15-10(100) def Port Melbourne 7-17(59) (Kingsley(Cob) 4 goals, Pitt and Smith(PM) 2 goals each) Riewoldt and Shelton best for the Tigers, Pinwill and Fanning best for the Borough. My Tip: Coburg Tigers by 17 points

Great preview as usual robbo. Interested to hear Andy Collins comments on ABC before Geelong game.
Coburg coach Andy Collins labelled it a match of amateurs versus professionals, alluding to the 16 AFL-listed players and rookies lining up for Geelong.
So what do Port and Frankston say to themselves each week??? Wrong mentality for mine......You cant have it both ways Andy.

What did andy collins say when Frankston thrashed Coburg in the elimination final last year ? Beaten by amateurs. We do not need negative comments like that or like Ghazi. Coburg played great in the first half to boot 12 goals. Coburg was not a standalone but an aligned team. We will see what Collins says this week as Coburg play standalone Port Melbourne. What will he say we are playing an amateur team ? Standlaone teams have beaten afl aligned teams plenty of times in the current comp after the recvamp 2000. Whether a standalone team is good enough for the flag remains to be seen but will happen one day I have no doubt. 2000 North Ballarat made the Grand Final as a stand alone team. 2001 Frankston made it to the 1st Semi 2006 Frankston to 1st semi with this year Port into 1st semi Not to mention tassie has also made it to a prelim final. Injury free, right mix, good recruiting and a bit of luck. Also right match ups on the day. Got to support the standout teams just to stick to the afl.

So true George. The stand alone clubs have a part of play in the competition as well.

Coburg may have 16-18 Richmond players available this week. The 5 or 6 that do not get a game are they allowed to play in the Coburg twos even though they have not played a game with the twos - some have. They had 9 Richmond players yesterday and have McGuane, Moore, Jackson & Reiwoldt to drop back from AFL plus Hartigan & Meyer back from injury plus Collins, Peterson and Clingnan who will probabaly in the twos where they have played when available most of the year. With the 9 guys yesterday plus the 4 coming back from AFL- one has to be dropped probaly 2 because you would think that Haritgan would play. Will be a interesting selection with the problem being that there is a chance that they may not pick their best team in that they may pick guys first who are staying on the Richmond list. You may find that someone like Krakeour may miss - if he does you will know that he will not be around Punt Road next year

This will however be another tough challenge for the Reserves side that will have to deal with all those outside the 12 AFL player limitation.

I can see these 2 games being blowouts this weekend After last week I think NB will be quite happy with themselves and Sandy quite the opposite and they will be getting a lot of Melbourne players back Coburg too will be getting a lot of Richmond players back and they were quite competitive last week for 3qtrs against Geelong Unfortunately I can see a 10+goal margin in both games...I hope I'm wrong after an excellent first week of finals
