Grand Final: The VFLs potential disaster
While most of us would agree Geelong are deserving of a spot in the Grand Final, I suspect the Cats making it could be a disaster for the VFL. For a start, the AFL Cats could have a Prelim Final - probably in Melbourne - that weekend. It would be very hard to see people from Geelong travelling up the road twice in the same weekend. But the other potential disaster is that Football Geelong have moved the Geelong league Grand Final to the Sunday September 23rd. So all of a sudden a VFL Grand Final appearance could become insignificant in the city. I guess it just highlights what 99% of VFL fans have said for years - the VFLs choice of Grand Final is no good. Lets hope in 2008 something is done about that - either AFL Grand Final eve or the day after the AFL Grand Final.

Hopefully North Ballarat will beat Geelong next week so you don't have to worry about it. If they played like they did against Sandy they can for sure. They almost beat Geelong in last years semi. Both sides are stronger in 2007

Nth Ballarat are one of the WORST drawing teams in the comp - they even pull a half decent crowd at their home games and the few "supporters they have DONT travel when the game is on TV . If you want a piss poor crowd at the GF get NT Ballarat into the GF. A Willy, Geelong or Port GF would be the best option.

You are kidding yourself mate if you just want the 2 GF teams that draw the best crowd into the GF everyyear, its not about options, this post is about the Geelong F.C not being able to get to a VFL GF because of other reasons -if thats the case then why not just play Willi/Port every year and not have a GF in your view. Speaking to someone in the know yesterday he said, there was 1400 at the NB V Sandy game yesterday and 1100 at the NB V Bendigo game last week. Today Port v Coburg are expecting 1500-2000 not a big difference for a finals game. And if you grab a copy of last years NB V Geel semi final, you will see there was 2000 plus at that game. You should make comments like that backed with facts not just because you feel like it.

Speaking to someone in the know yesterday he said, there was 1400 at the NB V Sandy game yesterday and 1100 at the NB V Bendigo game last week. It probibly wont matter whos in the GF as a crowd of 6000 would be tops. Today Port v Coburg are expecting 1500-2000 not a big difference for a finals game. And if you grab a copy of last years NB V Geel semi final, you will see there was 2000 plus at that game. Do you actually think crowds of less than 2000 are a good advert for what is supposed to be the second best comp in Victoria?. Get real! Most local leagues get more than that to their finals matches. As for the Bendigo v Nth Ballarat game I have seen more people at Port for VFA under 19 finals than was there last week. Obviously the AFL clubs supporters dont give a stuff about the comp as they dont even go to VFL finals which have their players playing for VFL clubs.

The attitudes shown by a lot of the AFL supporters towards our competition is absolutely disgusting. Too many call it the "reserves" and make devaluing comments about the competition.

The Melbourne Storm playing a prelim final on VFL Grand Final day. Yet another 'event' to dent the crowd. Melbourne Show, AFL finals, NRL Prelim Final, VAFA Grand Final, plus a number of metro and country league Grand Finals. Expect a crowd of 6,000 there this year.
