Comebacks
Can anybody recall some great comebacks over the years. A couple that spring to mine straight for myself are 1. Port melb v Coburg 1980 grand final at junction oval 2. port v Box hill three or four years ago being down by around 50points at port.

1962 Grand Final... Sandy down by 44 points at 3/4 time... Got up to win by 1 point I think it was the 1981 prelim final...Sandy were 66 points down at 3/4 time...hit the front in time on only for Bob Heard to kick the winning goal for Preston...Rex Hunt kicked 5 or 6 in the last 1/4...

Sandy. The most successful club in the past 30 years

That was Rex Hunts last ever game of footy and he kicked 10 for the match. season!

A couple of games you would put down as the greatest. 1962 GF Sandringham v Moorabin 1981 PF Preston v Sandringham Port v Box Hill a few years ago came back from 50 points down at 3/4 time to in. Throw in the 1990 GF between Willy v Springvale. The seagulls trailed by 34 points at the 5 minute mark of the last quarter but got up to win a thriller. Last season's North Ballarat huge comeback against Bendigo. My favorite Northcote v Sunshine at Skinner Reserve in 1976. Northcote were down by 28 points at the 25 minute mark then booted 5 goals in about 4 minutes to win a thriller. Gun forward Bill Chapman took a few big marks after starting the game on the bench. As the elated Northcote players ran up the race after the game the Sunshine supporters lined up the race and spat at the Northcote players. These would be the best six I can remember. I wasn't at the 1962 GF as I was only one years old and I didn't go the North Ballarat v Bendigo game last year but went to the other four.

Hey does this count there was a tv game back in 1990 at Port Melbourne Brunswick vs Preston Preston were leading by 15 goals going into the last quarter then Brunswick went bang bang bang bang and came close to winning the match going down by 5 points. Interesting to note playing for Brunswick was Anthony Eames and also matt conell who played for the bee's in there premireship in 1993. Eames was brought from the back line and put in the forward line and kicked 5 goals if anyone can get a copy of that game it's worth watching
I HEARD FRANKSTON done a massive comeback today.
Is it like athletics with wind assisted records not counted? Surely umpire assisted comebacks don't count? I doubt there has been a worse display of umpiring, 3 or 4 of Frankston's last quarter goals were handed to them via shocking umpiring decisions. First time ever I have seen a set of supporters cheer the umpires off.

Just a few more recent ones . . . Werribee came back from 45 points down against preston at preston a few years back in the last quarter, tv game! Think P.Bowden was instrumental. Was at that game for one reason or another. Also, an amazing comeback, not a huge margain, but Box hill was down by 20+ points at the 26 minute mark or something ridiculous against preston, and somehow, through C. alleway and co., clinched a victory! Had seen preston people congratulating themselves on boundary. Also, box hill's comeback against werribee in the semi-final in '03. David Loates kicking the winning goal. Think we were down by nearly 50! That's all from me for now!

1982, Williamstown kicked the first 3 goals of the 3rd quarter to lead Geelong West by 69 points. From then, Mark Browne and the rest of the running Roosters took over, and eventually won by 5 points (Willy kicked the last goal). Of course, there's the 1990 GF when Dempster goaled early in the last term to put Springvale 34 points up before Willy stormed back for a 2 point win. And round 1 1986, Brunswick gave up a 50 point lead going into time on in the 3rd term at home to williamstown, who won by 2 points. It started with 2 late 3rd quarter Kevin Sait goals to reduce the margin to 38 points at 3 qtr time. Willy, with Barry Round and Tony Pastore playing there first games, and Brett McTaggart back after a stint at Essendon clawed back to within a goal. Brunswick then broke forward. Not sure who the Magpies were, Pastore managed to block a hand pass that, had it got over would have gone to a running Magpie and sealed the game for them. Instead Willy quickly moved forward and Peter Lane goaled to win the game for the Gulls. Because it was Rounds first game it got some airplay on the news services that night.

Williamstown came back from about 5 goals down at 3 qtr time IIRC to beat the Bullants who had been dominant all season in a qualifying final @ Cramer St in '06.
