Frankston were the better team for the majority of the game. Williamstown had a good second quarter and probably the last 5 minutes. Pollard was excellent as was Collins. For the seagulls Dean Galea was very good. The seagulls have a big chance to destroy Collingwood next week by hopefully a big margin. I hope they show no mercy. The seagulls should be around 5/4 for the flag at the moment but finals are a different ball game of course. Frankston have been more than competitive in two hard away grounds in North Ballarat and Williamstown, I would not call them chokers as they play with a lot of gusto. They'll play in finals no worries. Great game today and a bit of spirit.

Williamstown came from 14 points down at the last change to kick 5 goals to Frankston's 1 (after the siren from a dodgy free). The great thing about Frankston is they have a red hot go. With few "stars" they go about their business with an energy that has and will trouble many sides. The Dolphin mids were well on top for most of the day, moving the ball quickly and with purpose. I think they just plain ran out of legs in the end but they kept having a crack. Certainly not chokers IMO.
Some of you blokes have really gotta stop livin' in the past, bit sick of 'nah, remember when.....' Who cares? The crowd got involved with the game, a tight contest, good for footy and the VFL. Focus on the positives for once - the comp is fairly even, the standard is the highest it's ever been and the comp is on stable ground. The past was good but don't let it over shadow the present or the future.
I agree!!! Partly I guess because I'm not old enough to remember what the competition once was, I did go to Toorak Park and I did go to Oakleigh as a kid and remember watching some VFA games on the ABC in the early 90s but most of that period the competition was struggling. We'll never ever see crowds of days gone by return to the VFL, theres a lot more passion around local suburban/country footy and to be honest those clubs are streets ahead when it comes to finances and in a lot of cases that footy doesnt cost the fans a cent to go and watch. Why pay $10 to see a sterile VFL game with AFL listed players you don't care about when you can experience a free game of EDFL or WRFL or A grade Amateurs and enjoy good standard of footy with a much better atmosphere?

You know what the funny thing is - the VFL as a competiton is more even than the suburban comps. I look at the WRFL results and always see in Division 1 and 2 were the top half sides belt the living you know what out of the bottom half sides week after week. The problem with the VFA/VFL goes back to the 90s - there was when they needed to promote the "Brand" and the team's "Brand" at school level, and they didn't do that. In fact, here's a good question for the Port Melbourne fans who might know this answer better than me, how often does the PMFC visit the local schools and conduct clinics, plus give away PMFC stickers and the like? Peter.
