TV coverage of this years Grand Final?
We are now at the half-way mark of the season, and surely the broadcast schedule must be under review. Will the ABC televise the Grand Final live? Or will they hold it back for a delayed replay on the Sunday? The only other TV option might be if Foxtel pick up the coverage. They haven't been to keen on the TAC Cup curtain-raiser coverage recently, despite still showing it. Would it be a decent option for them to cover the double-header?

Whatever happens I doubt we'll see it live on the ABC. At best perhaps a delay at 8.30 or even 9.30pm on the Friday night. Fox Sports - maybe. They have done the TAC Cup in recent years but I believe they get some cashola from the AFL for doing that. Perhaps Phil Cleary can be asked this question by the Casey boys on the weekend or if Peter Donegan still jumps on here give an answer during the ABC coverage on Saturday.

I heard a very strOng rumour on the weekend that Fox Sports will do both the TAC Cup and VFL Grand Finals live. Channel 2 to show a replay at 2pm on the Sunday.

I think if it wasn't televised it would be seen as a step backwards. Every Grand Final for the last 30 years or so has been on. Yes the crowd would be affected as a result. They'd have to make it a gold coin entry or something to try and get people through the gates.

VFA/VFL Grand Finals have been televised since 1967. It would be a dark day if it was not televised. It is approaching Round 11 and still nothing yet. It would be good for Foxtel picking up the telecast of both the tac cup and vfl Grand Finals. Optus C7 sport did the Monday nights in 2000 and showed a few curtain raisers the following year. The people who will turn up to the GF would turn up regardless if it is televised or not. As I have said before I am not a fan of Telstra 'Turd' Dome but will be there regardless unless it is a Geelong v Collingwood GF. I think I am safe there. So far I have watched VFA/VFL Grand Finals at the Junction Oval, Toorak Park, Princes Park, Windy Hill, Victoria Park and VFL Waverley Park. I missed the Punt Road 67/68 Grand Finals. This year will be on unchartered territory. Hopefully it can work although they might need to get at least 15,000 there. Not sure if they will though.

Ive been to all those grounds and Punt Road and North Port. Actually Punt Road had a great atmosphere and both Ch 0 and Channel 7 showed the game live. If the VFL get less than 25000 at Telstra it will look like shit.So better that Foxtel get the match and maybe a half decent crowd will turn up . It will also depend greatly on how much support the media give the game esp The Footy Show (on Ch 9 and sponsered by Foxtel) and the HeraldSun. The bullshit Ted Whitten giggle game gets a reasonable crowd just through Ch 9s PR efforts so it can be done but does the current Admin at the VFL have the nous to push this game hard?.

Add Teac Oval to the list of grounds for Grand finals I have been to. 1997 Frankston v Sandy, 1998 Springvale v Werribee and 1999 Springvale v North Ballarat. The best crowd of these games was in 1997.
