How much would a big screen cost?
Serious question...how much would a big screen cost the VFL to hire for TEAC OVAL? I read the Bendigo Football League have hired a big screen for their Grand Final this year at QEO and will have four cameras AND a replay facility in place. To be partially paid for with ads on the screen during the day. Surely the VFL could hire a mobile screen, and show the ABC feed for the crowd. We go on and on about this every year, but really HOW HARD CAN IT BE? Cmon VFL you've got 4 weeks notice. Get moving and be proactive for once!

Are you talking a truck with a big screen on the side simliar to the races? Or a projector inside the social rooms? And if you wanted to watch the game it's live at home or you can just venture across to Telstra Dome. I can't see the VFL promoting or funding anything other than the Telstra Dome.

comes up every year and every year it doesn't happen... country races do it, admitidly provably heavily funded by the TAB but surely the VFL can figure something out.. its things like this that should be able to separate the VFL from local footy and start to show its 'semi professional' status.
Are you talking a truck with a big screen on the side simliar to the races?
Yeah at TEAC Oval for the finals...exactly the same as they use at the races. The VFL have to learn that to get people through the gate what is on offer has to be BETTER than what they'd get at home. I can sit on my bum at home, and see six replays of a 'hanger' on the ABC, I can see a replay of a brilliant snap goap or a controversial head high tackle. I go to the game and I cant. Comes finals time, the VFL should be proving people with a service that nowdays is pretty much expected at a sporting 'event'. If country race meetings with 100 people there can have one, and if the AFL see it necessary to set one up for AFL games at Manuka and Geelong and Launceston, then why cant the VFL set one up for the finals series? Or at least for the Prelims at Port.

This is a fantastic idea i think i might look into the cost and put something on the table for Mr Hook to have a look at come finals time. Now a few questions where would you place the screen ? on the hill at Port remember the sun can't hit it so i'm thinking over near the txu sign is right near the abc set up or even better near the old burra club perfect It would be a piece of cake getting a feed from the ABC van the only think you would need to worry about is getting a screen which is high quality and weather proof as it might rain....... I couldn't think of anything better imagine a nice sunny day being able to see the game on a screen while watching it there haha and what about if the camera pans on you yelling out just fantastic.... Or robin Nahas kicking a gem then looking up at the screen :D :D Another great idea i had was actually ask someone who lives in the high rise building behind Ports ground if i could set up a camera on a tripod and film the game high up in the sky this would be a great view of the ground......

Although kids can kick the footy on that hill and you wouldnt want a stray ball smashing into it. Next to the scoreboard for mine. Why couldnt they have a camera walks through the crowd, do a bit of a street talk thing recorded for half time? Or take one into the rooms pre game and film the pre match address (with a clubs permission) and show that at half time? It's just too easy to sit on your hands and wonder why 2000 people rock up to finals. Try things and a Video screen opens up all sorts of possibilities. I like seeing footy from high up, you get to see the full picture and where there is space and where players run to etc. I think Im the only one who likes Channel 7's camera at the back of the Northern Stand but it provides great shots of centre bounce set ups and team structures.

The Goulburn Valley league have also hired a big screen for their Grand Final day this year too. So thats two country leagues who have done it. C'mon VFL, show some initiative and get something in for the finals!!!!

"Off the Bench" on WIN TV Thursday 11 September had a segment which mentioned that a big screen was going around to 4 or 5 country football finals. It showed the massive screen at a Sunraysia match with remarks about players looking at themselves on it. It could be useful for VFL finals if available.
