Great day for footy!! Sun was out, grass was green, air was fresh and the Scorpions got over the line. Fantastic win and great game put on by both clubs, Umpires were average both ways. Big M. Gardiner was the difference, handy to have a player like him slide into the first final... people were reporting during the week he was finished, he is far from finished, and good to see him up in the rooms to say g'day to after the game. Thought Jimmy Taylor was outstanding, and Armitage and Geary worked hard in the middle. Backline held up well, I thought Steve OBrien worked hard all day along with young Wall Silvagni and Pannoza. The intensity was impressive from both sides and will only grow each week of the finals

A really enjoyable game. There were periods of fast, open play; there were tense parts filled with tight in-and-under footy, and all the while the standard was impressively high. A great example of how finals footy should be played. Well done to both sides - the Bullants were gallant in defeat and the Scorpions gritty in victory.

Gallant effort from the Bullants who could have won with a bit of luck in what was a high standard final. Casey had the better of the clearances early and in the end it probably made the difference. Casey were able to reguarly go into attack after goals, giving the Bullants no chance of gaining any serious momentum. Gardiner and McEvoy had the better of the ruck duels, whilst Geary and Armitage both used the ball well. The Bullants can rue missed opportunities, especially the mess that Teague got into during the third term. Teague played on after marking 15 metres out and directly in front, the subsequent handball didn't reach Colbert and Casey averted what should have been a certain goal. Nonetheless Teague was amongst the Bullants best. The other missed opportunity came mid-way through the final term when Ackland was penalised after taking what seemed a clear mark. Ackland would have kicked for goal from the top of the goal square to give the Bullants a nine point lead. Teague did get a suspect free-kick with seconds to go but was too far out to score. Would have been nice to see the club win a final with Josh Vansittart as a captain. Vansittart was the last remaining player from the stand alone days and won't play next year. He hasn't ruled out playing beyond next year. The match capped off a respectable season for the Bullants who got the best out of their lsit.

Teague also missed one from a soft free-kick 35 metres out during the first term. Soon after there was another set shot from a forward pocket (Hartlett perhaps?) that missed entirely, with Casey settling and whittling the margin back to three points at the first break. Much momentum was lost from those misses, and as the game progressed the Casey midfield got on top. Michael Gardiner was very good for the Scorpions, giving his on-ballers first use of the footy. Casey scored four goals in four minutes from the seven minute mark of the second term, two of which (from David Armitage and Kyle Matthews) were straight from the centre, front-and-square snaps that were extremely well worked. The Bullants had spent their petrol tickets by three-quarter time. Too many running options for the Scorpions, but well done to the Bullants for still fighting it out. The last term saw them lose and then regain the lead, but the Scorpions were too strong despite the late assault from the visitors.
