Will those who are gloating now come back on Monday if their team gets beaten on the weekend? That will certainly sort the men from the boys.
A few Port supporters at the Liston last night not too impressed with Gary Ayres stating in the sunday age about his desire to return to AFL ranks next year. Very poor timing was the general topic.

Who was there?
I was there and thought there was nothing strange about what he said. He was interviewed on stage by Peter Donegan, and was asked about his coaching ambitions. Unlike what was reported, all I remember him saying was that he'd like to return to the AFL in some capacity. It was just mentioned as an ambition, and not meant in an immediate context. I would've thought it's perfectly natural for Ayres to want to return eventually to the AFL in some capacity.

Silvester, Goodes, Stretton, Johnson, Roach, Pods, Marigliani (Emg.), Nahas, Stephenson, Wall, Kenna and Iacobucci all in state team. Baird, Byrne, Summers and Sautner would have been in barring injury. Who selected the team of the year??

No David Teague in the team of the year! Missed a few games with injury but was rarely out of the Bullants best. [Coaches name the best players and Teague was modest enough not put himself in the best]

[Coaches name the best players and Teague was modest enough not put himself in the best]
I saw a lot of the Bullants this year and honestly wouldn't rate anybody as having a big enough impact to make the team of the year. (Regardless of that, well done to Adam Iacobucci for being named). Teague's best football was played in an unusual position for him - out of the goalsquare. But he even then there were times when he desperately struggled for pace on the lead, and his kicking for goal sometimes let him down at vital moments (witness his costly misses against the Scorpions in the Elimination Final). However his coaching and cajoling of younger players was brilliant, and that for me was the real story and significance of his year.
