2008 Grand Final
Well, here it is. After a year of 14 sides battling it out, we are left with the last two, and only one will be Premiers. I can't beleive that I am praying that Port will get up to knock the pathetic smug grins off the faces of all those involved with the pathetic sell-outs from the bush. Who would beleive that there could be a more arrogant bunch than Port? Good luck to both sides though. I'd be happy to see Port get up because I can't stand North Ballarat (but I'm just one of many who can't cop them). On the other hand, there are a few at NorthBall that deserve to see a win, not the least being Fitzy and a couple of the older blokes there. So, may the best team win.

I cant think of a Grand Final where I haven't cared that much about who wins. I neither love nor hate either of the sides. I'd perhaps lean to Nth Ballarat cos I would love to see Fitzy coach a premiership, he thoroughly deserves to achieve that. Port on the other hand, well its been a long time between drinks for a proud club. They've got their fair share of arrogant, one eyed fans but this competition needs a stand alone side to prove winning the ultimate prize is achieveable. I might have to put a few bucks on the game with Sportsbet just so I can barrack for someone with a financial interest!

This must be a first. To this point this topic only contains intelligent posts from two very intelligent posters. I doubt it will last.

You see, you and I will go to work tomorrow. The unintelligent will log on during the day, probably about 11am when they wake up.

How about some positive debate and comments on the grand final. Well done to Port Melbourne. It is a great effort by a club without a direct link to an AFL club. And North Ballarat - also an enormous effort to make it after eight years. Aligning with an AFL club was a extremely difficult decision for the Roosters, but they had no choice given how difficult it was to recruit the necessary experience and talent from a regional base. It was not working having a significant number of players based in Melbourne. A full partnership with an AFL club was never on. The part alignment has been a superb fit. As well as having access to quality young players and men from the Kangaroos (the majority with only minimal AFL experience), North Ballarat has been able to continue developing regional players. Moloney, Greig, Stephenson, Sharkey, Feery, Goodes, Searl, Driscoll, Clifton, Chester, Sewell and McMahon have all come from Ballarat and its greater region, and form the backbone of the team. They have developed into fine VFL players and now have an opportunity to play on one of the biggest football stages outside the AFL. And of course they are under the leadership of a basically homegrown coach - Gerard FitzGerald - who is one of the most respected mentors outside the AFL.

I love Grand Finals where the two sides havent already met during the finals series and we have that here. I think we have a terrific match on paper, I couldn't confidently predict a winner and I'd like to think the betting market will be show the odds as being about 50/50 for the match. Two terrific midfields made up essentially of VFL listed guys, they should go head to head - no need for any stopping jobs here. I reckon both sides would back their on ball brigade in to do the job. A Nth Ballarat defence that are tight and have conceded the least points against all year (mind you I think playing at NB can impact upon that with some lower scoring games), and a Port side with a dangerous forward line. Bonnadio and Pitt marking players, Nahas and Mullins at the fall of the ball... There will be fascinating match ups all over the ground.

I'm delighted too for both Gerard FitzGerald and Gary Ayres - not only have they sold their own clubs extremely well this year, but they've sold the competition itself with enthusiasm and respect.

TIP Port Melbourne by 52 points. The Borough will put the foot down at the ten minute mark of the 2nd quarter and it will be all over. Crowd Prediction.... 12,300. Pete.

Maybe my body is incapable of dealing with reasoned footy analysis?
