In reply to those who were not at that battle at Frankston in the early 80's A usual rough tough game with Sandy against the Dollies and at 3/4 time with the crowd around the centre a Frankston official clocked boundary umpire Rod Twinning. This caused more panic with then police horses who were around the centre and used to protect the umpires but aparently never saw what happened for some reason and no charges were ever laid.
This was the last game Twinning umpired as he then retired.

Yes it was thought that was the culprit was untouchable and thats why the VFA and the umpires at the time were too shit scared to do anything about the assault on the umpire.

re players getting hit in the head, i only saw Byron Barry get hit in the head he was unlucky in my view as he committed to the ball and had no choice but to make a contest, one of those split things that happen ,i am sure that his opponent in that incident did not want the result that happened as he also appeared to want the ball only and not to take out Byron .

Aussie Rules ,as has been said many times before is a simple game of two sides or teams if you like, one side has the ball and the other tries to get that ball for his team either with skill if possible or with force as can happen.
Sometimes luck or bad management can come into play but generally if your team has the better players on that day and eventually outscores the opposition your team will win.
So your club must put the best team they have on the field on that day to win.

Boundary umpire Twwining did't retire...he resigned in disgust that the VFA would not take any action against the Frankston official who hit him..an interesting decision indeed not to investigate...

Sandy. The most successful club in the past 30 years

Sorry Zebraman I thought he retired, but having to give the game away because of bad act on him wasn't the best way to go out.

Zebras v Noth Ballarat should be a beauty this Sunday at TBO Sandy.
Only in the last quarter did the Zebs have the match under control against the Dolphins and with Premiers North Ballarat looking to open their 2009 season with a win and coach Gerald Fitzgerald having a very close look at the opposition a good match is expected.
Sandy have lost their last 4 matches against the Roosters so things have to be turned around for a Andy Lovell Zebra win.
Interesting to see ex cop Mace squealing about football violence - are we now playing netball mate?
The list of Sandy players and others bashed at Frankston matches over the years is a very long one so I suggest hypocrite Mace shut his mouth.
I've read a fair bit of crap here from people in the past, but that statement must be the most idiotic and actionable comment ever.

You need to either seek some serious psychiatric help, or just pull you head in.

I am surprised, when NorthPort is such a sensible and cautious moderator, that the post is still here.

Disturbing.

Whats the fact that he is an ex cop got to do with how Frankston play their football.
Sandringham footy club have had a current cop as president for the past four or five years.
Another example of your hypocrisy Billy.
Havent you heard the one about good cops and bad cops?LOL

Personally I wouldnt have a copper as President of any footy club.

I saw some dispicable incidents at Frankston when Mace was president in the 70/80s and one involving Mace in particular most Sandy people have never forgotten.
Another gem. Bryan Mace has NEVER been the President of the Frankston Football Club.

Maybe not but he was in an official position at Frankston at the time.

A bit precious are we?
So you deny that your players when playing at Frankston didnt go out of their way to rough up players from other teams in the past? I think a good example of your clubs ethics is the 1997 GF when your players came the rough stuff against Sandys Paul Dear and lost the plot and the game.

I think you will find most ex VFA clubs have the same opinion as I do about playing at Frankston over the years so no Im not mad and I wont pull my head in!
