Round 3 Preview

SATURDAY
Box Hill Hawks(1-0 6th) vs Coburg Tigers(2-0 3rd) at Box Hill City Oval 2pm (3WBC)
Last time they met: Rd 13 2008 at Box Hill. Coburg Tigers 18-14(122) def Box Hill Hawks 9-16(70).
Box Hill Hawks have not beaten Coburg Tigers since 2005(6 games). This traditional Anzac Day game always is a good one. Coburg are coming off a great win last week over Geelong while the Hawks just got past the Bullants. I think Coburg will continue their unbeaten start to the season in a close one.
Note: Reserves game starts at 10:30am. Free Admission before 12pm.

Northern Bullants(1-1 7th) vs Port Melbourne(2-0 2nd) at NAB Oval,Preston 2pm (Casey Radio)
Last time they met: Rd 20 2008 at TEAC Oval. Port Melbourne 20-15(135) def Northern Bullants 14-10(94).
Port Melbourne have had the wood on the Bullants over the last couple of years winning their last 4 meetings. Bullants last beat Port in Rd 15 2006. The Bullants are coming off a shock loss to Box Hill last week while the Borough held on to to beat Scorpions under lights at Casey Fields last Saturday. Port to win a tight one.
Note: Reserves playing as a curtain raiser(11:10am start). Free Admission before 12pm.

SUNDAY
Williamstown(1-0 4th) vs Werribee(1-0 5th) at Burbank Oval,Williamstown 1:10pm (ABC1)
Last time they met: Rd 2008 at Burbank Oval. Werribee 14-14(98) def Williamstown 12-15(87).
These 2 great western suburbs rivals split their games last year. Williamstown blasted Collingwood away in the second half while Werribee easily defeated Bendigo under lights at home last week. These 2 sides are coming into this game in great form and this should be a thriller.

Frankston(0-2 9th) vs Casey Scorpions(0-2 12th) at Frankston 2pm (Casey Radio)
Last time they met: Rd 18 2008 at Frankston. Casey Scorpions 16-10(106) def Frankston 10-10(70).
This is must win game for both sides. A loss here and they fall away from the pack. Casey have won the last 3 meetings, Frankston last win against the Scorpions was in Round 18 2006. Frankston had a good first quarter against Zebras but were worn down after that, It was also complicated by losing 3 players to serious injuries. The Scorpions were behind all night against the Borough but lost by only 4 points. This will be another tight contest.

Bendigo Bombers(0-2 10th) vs Collingwood(1-1 8th) at Queen Elizabeth Oval 2pm
Only meeting: Rd 15 2008 at Princes Park. Collingwood 20-16(136) def Bendigo Bombers 6-10(46).
Both teams are coming off heavy losses last week. Collingwood looks the goods in this game although Bendigo playing their 1st game at home for the season will be tougher. Interesting game.

Sandringham(2-0 1st) vs North Ballarat(0-1 13th) at Trevor Barker Oval,Sandringham 2pm (LiveVFL)
Last time they met: Rd 2008 at Sandringham. North Ballarat 8-17(65) def Sandringham 7-13(55).
The Roosters have won the last 3 meetings against the Zebras (Sandy's last win against the Roosters was Rd 19 2007). Sandringham fought back from a slow start to beat the Dolphins last week. They did look the goods this year and the new alignment with Saints seems to be working. The defending champions had a rough start against the Borough in Round 1 and coming off the bye probably doesn’t help either. The Zebras should win this game at home.

Geelong have the BYE.

What do you think of the preview? I would like to as I can improve it as the season goes on.

Good preview Robbo.
You can even include the head to head meetings.
Maybe also include odds even though it might be only a rough guide.
Box Hill 2.50 Coburg 1.30
Bullants 2.20 Port 1.50
Williamstown 1.60 Werribee 2.20
Frankston 1.80 Casey 2.00
Bendigo 2.00 Collingwood 1.70
Sandringham 1.50 North Ballarat 2.40
These are only guesses.

Should be free entry before 1pm as per the State Government Anzac Day Act legislation.

Might want to check that Robbo.

I was told 12pm but could be wrong.

Your R3 preview was interesting and informative. I have copied it and sent to my colleagues who are mildly interested in the VFL comp

Nice preview to read on the upcoming matches!

The club is donating some money to local RSL's so I'd presume we will be asking for a donation. People can always get in free by producing a valid met-card at all Bullants home games, half price with any NAB card.

The club has put a fair bit of effort into promoting the game so hopefully there will be a decent crowd.

As far as I am aware it is free admission until 12pm on Saturday for both games. I can not find anything otherwise to change that.

The Frankston v Springy and COllingwood v bombers games are biggies - they are four teams that could fall off the pace early on.
