PORT Melbourne has hardly put a foot wrong under the coaching of Gary Ayres.
But on Saturday at Cramer St it stumbled against old foe the Northern Bullants and fell to a 43-point loss, its first defeat of this nascent VFL season.
A bad start was the finish of the Boroughs. Kicking with a decent wind they were outscored five goals to four in the first quarter.
“We well and truly knew it was game on at that early stage,†Ayres said on Sunday morning.
“They put a lot of pressure on us and we couldn’t absorb it. We turned the ball over and they made the most of their opportunities. They played well.â€
