COBDEN has beaten the June 30 clearance deadline by signing Colac key position player Levi Dare.

Coach Wayne Walsh yesterday said the club started searching for a mid-season recruit after a series of injuries.

Dare was available to play with a country club when not required by his VFL side Port Melbourne.

The 196cm ruckman/key forward trained with the Bombers this week and will line up in tomorrow's match against Terang Mortlake.

Port Melbourne has released Dare for at least the next two weeks but will have first call on his services.

The Geelong Falcons graduate won Port Melbourne's reserves best and fairest last season and led the league's reserves goalkicking.

The VFL has a mid-season break after Port Melbourne's encounter with Coburg Tigers this weekend.

Walsh said Dare's season had been interrupted by injuries and he was looking to build form and fitness with the Bombers.

"We'll definitely get a couple of games from him during the season," he said.

"It depends where they finish."

Dare's signing is well timed for Cobden, which lost spearhead Brett Taylor with a broken arm last Saturday against Port Fairy.
