Full credit to Bendigo, who fielded one of their stronger sides this season, and very nearly broke Port Melbournes run of home ground wins (going back to 2007). It would have been ironic if the stretch had come to an end to a side winless in 2009.

Port started well in the first quarter kicking with a howling gale.. I knew it was going to be very strong at Port driving to the ground, I could hear Casey FM battling in the elements, their microphones being buffeted by the wind.

Bendigo fought back hard in the second quarter, and really looked a chance to take away four points. They won the ball out of the center and their delivery into the forward line was generally very good.

Bonaddio had a dirty day, giving away a few free kicks, and the umpires were right on his case.
