Round 20 - Port Melbourne v Williamstown

This game now looks like being the first of two consecutive games between the two clubs, as Port and Willy look like playing in week one of the finals for the 2nd Qualifying Final.

Some enthralling match ups should make for an entertaining game.

I couldn't agree more. The Borough must win this game to retain our home ground advantage. Nothing better than sticking it to the old enemy in full voice from the outer. GO THE BOROUGH!

What a game coming up. Id like to see Cory McGrath take Rose and give Brewer the job on Little.

Little was abit to quick for Dalton last time and I think Dalton would be better taking Galea.

On the smaller ground at Port I think we can expose Willy's backline with our mixture of height and smalls.
Some have been saying that we were kicking more goals last year but this year we have many goal kickers who can bob up. Last year most of the load was on Nahas and Bonnadio.

I think all the Port supporters are more excited this year than last year.

We might be from the bush. but we ain't green

Perhaps Boumann will take A Deluca.

Wouldn't expect Wight or Lynch to play.

Otherwise I reckon you're on the money NP.

game today highlights money can't buy premierships - another year of disappointment for the few port faithful :)

Port Melbourne: 4.2.26 ~ 6.4.40 ~ 8.7.55 ~ 9.12.66
Williamstown: 3.1.19 ~ 7.4.46 ~ 12.8.80 ~ 16.12.108

GOALS:
Port Melbourne: McMahon 3, Baird 2, Batsanis, Pinwill, Schultz, Raymond.
Williamstown: Rose 4, Galea 3, Little 3, Joyce 2, Roughead 2, Stack, Lynch.

BEST:
Port Melbourne: Nixon, Batsanis, Raymond, Pinwill, Dalton, McMahon.
Williamstown: Johnson, O'Keefe, Jolley, Joyce, Roughead, Boumann.

REPORTED PLAYERS:
Port Melbourne: Toby Pinwill (10)forceful contact to David Stretton (27)

Disappointing result from a Port perspective.. I thougth we started really well, lots of good close-in contested footy.

As the game wore on, Williamstown were able to get their game going, and some of the their delivery into the forward line was excellent.

Injury wise, Adrian Deluca I believe did a medial ligament, which is a massive blow. David Robbins is out with a footy injury after a non footy related mishap.

Patty Rose playing close to goal was damaging, and Brett Johnson is a classy footballer at this level.

It was good to hear a few Seagulls supporters making some noise for a change.. The last few Port v Willy games, it seems there aren't too many real passionate supporters out there.

David Pitt and Matt Smith both played in the two's.

The unbeaten run of 20 games in a row finally coming to an end.

Not much chance of next week's game being at Williamstown. Port will play at Port. That will generate the best crowd for the VFL.

If the Bullants come out tomorrow and smash Frankston into next year with a 10 goal + victory, and snatch third spot, then Williamstown v Northern Bullants may be held at Burbank.

I would say, at this stage, Port v Willy will be at TEAC.

Collingwood and Geelong will most likely not clash with their AFL partners matches, so that is another issue that will have to be sorted. In the AFL Geelong will probably play Saturday, Collingwood may play Sunday.

If St Kilda v Collingwood is Sunday arvo, then the Pies will play their final on Saturday.
After all the overnight rain, Port went in way too tall for the conditions. They were on top early, but the heavy ground was their downfall.

I'm betting all Port fans now have their TV's welded on to Ch10 as they had transposed the scores, showing that Port had won.

Let's hope next week is at Burbank, and if the weather reports are any indication, a week of rain will really make it a tough game.
Apart from the centre square the ground was in remarkably good condition Dale.

Part of the reason they were on top early is that there was a 2-3 goal breeze blowing to the Williamstown Road end. It faded as the game went on.

I reckon the talls scenario is not necessarily a good option regardless of the weather. The DeLucas are just tall not much else, McLaren had no influence and Fanning was just okay. Bonaddio seemed to have a roll of just crashing packs and needs to be careful he doesn't end up with Buddy and probably Lloyd on the sidelines.

I saw the Ch10 booboo too. Who proof reads this stuff?

Is that the run that started the week after Williamstown won there by 20 goals late in 2007, sending the blue rinse Port ladies apoplectic?
