BENDIGO Pioneers club champion Kallen Geary has signed with VFL club Sandringham.
A shock non-selection in last year’s AFL national draft and AFL rookie draft, Geary was chased heavily by several VFL clubs, including the Bendigo Bombers.

However, the Victorian Country representative decided to move to Melbourne and join the St Kilda-aligned Zebras.

“It’s with no disrespect to the Bendigo Bombers that I signed with Sandringham,” Geary told The Advertiser yesterday.

“I think the Bombers are going to be a good side this year.

Brother of St Kilda's Jarryn. Family connection certainly helped out there

The Zebras have recruited well & Kallen will be a great addition. It's been interesting to see that the predomiant recruits haven't been past AFL players but good local or state league level players. It's a good direction for the VFL as rather than being a pathway from the AFL it may now be a pathway to the AFL. A subtle but important difference.

Welcome to Vfl Footy Forum Yellow Black and Blue. Yes if Kallum turns out to be as good as brother Jarryn he will be good for the Zebras.
The new recruits at Sandy this year are the best for some time , no doubt the possible pathway to St. Kilda is helping.

I am confused with that statement Zebra. Surely the pathway to Melbourne - Warnock, Hughes, Valenti, Martin - would have helped in much the same way?

Paul all those players played AFL football and most still are doesn't that make room for more junior players to come into Sandy and later try their luck to progress.
I see that as helping Sandy and VFL football in particular.

Stevo as we only have had one intra club match it's much too early to choose who can progress ,there is too many newies that haven't had a game yet and with the camp this weekend some may even drift away. Of course we shall know more after 1st practice match v Box Hill at TBO Sat 13th March.
