STATS (First game 1950 at Gabba,Brisbane)

In Perth: Played 4 WAFL 2 VFA/VFL 2

Overall
WAFL Played 199 Won 98 Lost 101
VFA/VFL Played 98 Won 51 Lost 47

Last time they met: 2007 at TEAC Oval VFL 25-11(161) def WAFL 5-12(42)

Only Meeting at Medibank Stadium: 2004 VFL 10-8(68) def WAFL 8-9(57)

Greatest Winning Margin by the WAFL: 86pts at Subiaco 1988

Greatest Winning Margin by the VFL: 119pts at TEAC Oval 2007

Its that time of the yeart again when state league pride and the talk comes out about which league is the best in the Nation. WA are coming off a 1pt win against SANFL at home last year. While the VFL last played in 2008 going to the SANFL by 65pts at Adelaide Oval. VFL have beaten the WAFL in the last 2 games these 2 sides have played you have to go back to 1988 at Subiaco Oval for the last time WAFL defeated the VFA/VFL. Medibank Stadium is big ground but with rain forecast this could make it a very tight affair. WA have been training for about a month now for this while the Vics have only come together this week that could also be a factor. I think in the end the WAFL longer preparation and home ground advantage will be the difference in this game. WA to win a close one.

My Tip: WAFL by 7pts

Well done Robbo...
The weather will play an important part in team selection, The Vics might need some stronger bodies rather than go for speed if it is going to be wet.

We might be from the bush. but we ain't green

The WAFL is hugely improved, and there is no way the margin will be anything like the last time the two states met.

The Sandgropers after beating the SANFL last year will really challenge the Vics on the large Leederville Oval.

I can't wait to see who makes it into the final squad for the Big V side.

Matty Little has got to get a game from Williamstown.
Does rookies qualify ? If so Marigliani is a shoe in.

Who from Port will get in the team North Port ?
I hope Brewer gets a game.
Frankston's Hibberd would be the only Dolphin I would suggest.

The big O and Myles Sewell are two certain roosters. They should have a couple in the squad. If Nick Carnell is not injured I would pick him for the hard ball gets and toughness. Casey must have a few contenders.

Is there a preliminary squad picked ?

Robbo

I believe the squad was reduced to 30 today but have not seen it.
Michael Hibberd is the only Dolphin in the 30.

The team is training at Port tomorrow night and Thursday Night not the best I would have thought to prepare for the big ground at Leedervile.

Saintgail

what sort of crowd are they likely to get?
how many Vic supporters would get over?

I will be there for another game and just thinking about going along..

They might get a few hundred more than we got at Teac Oval a few years ago againt the WAFL.
Leederville Oval I have not watched a game there but have been to the ground and kicked a footy around.
West Perth used Leederville Oval as their home ground up until the 90s when it was not used as they went to Arena Joondalup. Since the Perth Glory (Soccer) have been formed they took over Perth Oval and East Perth went to Leederville Oval. For the past couple of seasons Subiaco are now cotennants with East Perth at Leederville Oval.

Promises to be a good close hard tussle. Go the VICS !!!
