Winning goal came from a free kick - 5 of the North Ballarat goals came from free kicks - seems we had two opponenets out there today :-([/quote]

Wally,
The same as the first 5 for Willy.
Umpiring very very technical today.
Some you win, some you lose. Cop it sweet mate.

Casey now on top with 8 wins after 9 rounds.
Although they were pretty good last year I would say that they are the surprise packet to date. Good test for them playing at Point Gellibrand next week.

Good game at North Ballarat today. For the first 2 quarters and most of the third quarter the seagulls led but then the lead changed a few times in the last quarter.
Could have gone either way. Was impressed with Jarrad Roughhead who looks like a very good ruckman with plenty of mobility. Brett Johnson was good in and under for the seagulls. The roosters had 3 main forwards in Aaron Edwards, Josh Smith and Cory Jones, although they did not dominate at least gave the roosters three targets. The two sides I would say are very evenly matched and would be very keen to face each other in September.
Great to see Preston clean up the filth and bring them back to earth. The filth at Vic Park wouldn't like any Carlton players dominating over them on their own patch.

Geelong certainly had their kicking boots to at one stage have 10 goals straight. I tipped Werribee today and they are certainly let me down in the vfl tips. Been very disappointing in 2010.
Coburg v Gold Coast was predictable. Karmichael Hunt ??? I will have to look at the replay, but he will obviously need plenty of practice, game time and coaching to learn the game. Even the great Jimmy Stynes cut his teeth with Prahran.
Looked like a decent crowd there though.

Willy usually wait til later on in the year to choke... Sounds like it was a good game anyway.

Just one other thing Wally, Upon reflection, I have been close to Gerard Fitzgerald for 16 years & never ever once have I heard him criticise an umpire or umpires decisions.
Extremely poor showing by Peter German in todays press.

North Ballarat Willy was an excellent game, just what you would hope to see from 2 of the top 3 teams.
Roosters had 6 behinds on the board before finally snagging its first, but then fought slowly back into the game.
Last quarter lead changed 3 times late in the game as first NB pulled about 9 clear, then Willy got 3 in quick succession then NB the last 2.
Hard tackling, and good one on ones, the difference ultimately was NB's forward line was strong and marked well. Both teams moved the ball fast from end to end, which was a good effort in the slippery conditions.
The game was over-umpired - both teams were hard at the ball, so plenty of physical clashes and the umpires just frankly couldnt keep up.

Digs, did look for you after the game (VFA can attest to that) but ended up having a kick on the ground with my son. However, did polish off a couple of cold ones in the warmth of your social club during the day. Maybe next year !
