Cranbourne booted off main oval at Casey Fields

CRANBOURNE Football Club is privately fuming at Casey CouncilÂ’s plan to kick it off the main oval at Casey Fields.
Council officers will, at tomorrow night’s council meeting, recommend the club be removed from the ground and sent to oval number two at the end of this season.

It’s been a nightmare season for oval one, with the VFL, TAC Cup and Casey Cardinia competitions all relocating matches because of the muddied surface.

AFL club Melbourne has shifted its weekly training session from the venue to avoid its highly paid players suffering injury.

While Cranbourne president Gerry Kelly declined to comment to the Leader, it is understood the plan was sprung on the club on Friday.

Such is life when you get into bed with the AFL clubs.Cranbourne are the LOCAL club and its a disgrace that the original local club is treated this way.Ratepayers should be very concerned their rates are propping up outsiders.

On the flip side though Billy, you would have to ask why was the facility developed in the first place. ??
It certainly would not have had that sort of money spent on it for the local team.

Correct Digs....the whole Casey Fields thing was built to lure Melbourne out there so they could proudly announce that Cranbourne has an AFL presence in the area...I doubt that Cranbourne Football Club would have even entered the councils thinking

And now Melbourne won't train there because of the state of the ground

Sandy. The most successful club in the past 30 years

Ofcoure it wouldnt need to be as good for the local team but who cares apart from the ex Springvale FC and Melbourne Fc. I doubt that MFC will stay there for a long time now they have their new training facilities at the Rectangle Stadium across the road from the MCG

This fantasy of Melbourne relocating to Cranboure wasteland was failed AFL coach Chris Connoly's dream and it will come back to bite him and the over ambitious Cranbourne councillors.Same goes for the suckers out at Craigieburn.

Utter nonsense. When Casey Fields was opened the Scorpions were aligned to St. Kilda, not Melbourne.

Strangely enough, the Saints are aligned with your own team zebra man.

So that dosent make any sense.

The facts are the local people are paying for outsiders to use facilities with very dubious benefits and the moment it dosent suit their purposes they will leave.

Dont ever think that real AFL premiership matches will be played in Cranbourne.
