Casey Scorpions going forward

Heard talk on Sunday that the Casey Board presented to key stakeholders at an appreciation dinner last week (sponsors, members, players) about the future of the club/league etc.

Word is Casey has been given the green light to build a pub/social club facility on the main entrance to casey fields as well as acquiring pokies through the auction earlier in the year. This is apparently hoped to be completed by end of season 2011 which will bring in significant revenue.

Also the club has been holding meetings with the coucil and $125,000 will be spent on fixing the oval and a plan will be put in place to ensure the surface doesn't receive what it did this year.

Also added to this was interesting information re. the AFLs takeover plot earlier in the year (or was it last year) apparently demetriou has accepted the VFL needs to have its own identity and the AFL will NOT be trying to gain control of the league again. end of story. Also the state of the VFL record and the stuff up admitted to by the league which will be solved next year.

And the last point which I found pretty interesting was that the 'Northern Seaboard/States Comp' or whatever they will call it will go ahead next year so GWS will NOT be in the VFL. Thins potentially brings back the bye etc. And on top of the is that clubs, including AFL clubs have been asked how they want to exist within the league and the wird is AFL clubs will have the freedom again to choose to stand alone, but once the window of opporunity is shut, then it's shut for good and teams will be locked in to stop the chopping/changing of alignment etc.

Thanks for the update iceman.

Great to hear that the state of the VFL Record will be addressed.. I had collected them for quite a few years, but had given up on doing it this year.

If the alignments/standalone structures are being set in stone, we might yet see one or two more clubs decide it is too risky not to field their own side, if they would otherwise be locked into an alignment.

That is great news for Casey regarding the pokies and social club/pub at there ground.
Having a pub/club at there venue would be unique and encourage players to stay around after games and socialize as well as obviously making some money.

I wonder if it will be as popular as Redheads that used to be at the Lake Oval where South Melbourne Cricket Club played?? Casey South Melbourne CC must also be very happy with this news.

It will definitely be interesting. The word was powers to be expect some changes over the summer.
At a guess... Bendigo - Essendon??

As far as i'm aware the Scorpions and Demons are both satisfied. I think they may have signed a 10 year agreement before last season.

I wonder if Frankston will pursue anything?? possible 50-50 with St.Kilda like the Willy/Weribee? who knows...

I have got the 1987 and 1990 GFs in which Springvale played in.

Apparantly the 1983 Springvale v Brunswick should be obtainable from the club. I haven't got this one but would be keen to get.
There is also a tape somewhere of Springvale v Mentone in the Federal league from 1977 GF. Another tape I would love to get hold of.

Good for casey if they get that built. also what time period is this window of oppertunity and i cant see it being locked in for good as the AFL will again have there way and let their clubs cut and run anytime they want.
